Taking pushchair on holiday.

I'm going abroad next week and have really struggled to find a stroller to take. I bought one but then realised it didn't have a hood so couldn't offer any shade.

I have seen some others but the reviews are pretty poor. I don't want to spend a fortune as it's only for holiday but nor do I want a cheap flimsy pushchair.

I've got a silver cross pushchair that I use for my every day use and I'm actually considering just taking that. I would be worried about it getting damaged in cargo though.

Has anyone else just took their own pushchair?

Or can anyone recommend a cheap pushchair that would be suitable?

I have a silver cross that we took away after we had had it quite a while. It's a wayfarer. It did get a bit mucky on the belt and the hood frame now has a little ding in it but it not that bad. I took the seat liner out so it was kept clean for DS. I believe you can also buy buggy bags to zip them into for more protection.

You could buy a detachable parasol for the buggy you have. I used one abroad last summer as, even though there was a hood on the buggy, the angle of the shade wasn't always right.

We took our icandy once - had to check it but it can out fine in its (expensive) bag.

We now take the baby jogger city mini when we travel - absolutely enormous hood, and good pushchair for older kids. DS has been out of the icandy for ages but is still comfortable in the babyjogger age 3.5.

We tool our carry cot and wheels when dd was tiny. Left it at the gate and picked it up on the carousel. Didn't even bag it. It was fine

I commented on your other thread.

Can you get a parasol/sunshade to fit the pushchair you have?

Scotinoz · 31/03/2015 09:28

My Uppababy pram has done the equivalent of a couple of round the world trips. Totally fine. Buy a bag, check it in, collect on the other side Smile

There's plenty of small strollers that are suitable for holidays. What's your budget? Or can you buy a protective bag for the one you have so it's not damaged in the hold?

Artandco · 31/03/2015 09:37

We used to fly maybe twice a month when both were tiny. We always just took the main bugaboo chameleon.

moomoob · 31/03/2015 10:02

I've just ordered a baby start pushchair from argos £40 folds down lightweight suitable from birth. I've got a silver cross wayfarer but worry about it being damaged on the flight and also the buggy will be lighter and easier to transport with all the suitcases and other Dcs, baby will be 3 mth when we go on holiday

Paddingtonthebear · 31/03/2015 10:05

The Zeta Voom buggy is cheap on Amazon and has a huge hood

babybrainache · 31/03/2015 13:53

We just took our normal pram (bugaboo bee) but took the hood completely off and packed it in the suitcase. Came out fine.

IssyStark · 31/03/2015 13:57

We've taken our Quinny Zapp (note the original not the Xtra) all over and it has survived really well. There's even a travel bag you can buy for it. The only real problem it had was over the cobbles in Ostia Antica!

EarthWindAnd9 · 31/03/2015 14:02

We just bought a chicco liteway for this very reason, a friend recommended it as she has used it for her very tall dd from ages 1-3 and she rated it highly. Currently half price in some colours at £70 (we got ours on Amazon). It's brilliant, highly recommend it, in fact we are now back from holiday and I'm using it more than the bugaboo as it's just so light and easy to fold.my DS (13mths) also seems to really like it and he even had a few naps in it on holiday, which is unheard of at home.

LokiPokey · 31/03/2015 14:05

If you're happy with your pushchair I'd suggest purchasing a snooze shade and travel bag for it.

We bought an Armadillo Flip XT for a recent holiday. We could keep baby in it all the way to the gate and then put it in its travel bag and collected it at bag pick up and it was fine.

AnythingNotEverything · 31/03/2015 14:07

We bought a Silver Cross Pop as a holiday pushchair/grandparents house pushchair. Huge sun shield, light and nice to push. Often reduced to £100. Again, don't know your budget.

We flew with it last year and it was fine.

LastOneDancing · 31/03/2015 14:08

I got a second hand maclaren quest off ebay for £20. Idea being, if it did get damaged in flight or whatever it was not great loss.

Best buy ever. We wrapped it in the playmat, secured with parcel tape at the gate meaning it had a bit of protection and we had the playmat in the villa.

I also took some pegs and a giant muslin to make a full cover for midday sun and allow DS to sleep in the stroller.

Enjoy your holiday.

PuppyMummy · 31/03/2015 20:53

we also have a silver cross pop for holiday use! no problems with it being transported so far and its light and lies almost flat so excellent for naps.

it has a big canopy but I would really really recommend getting a snooze shade also. ours stays attached to the buggy. its so useful. protects from sun and wind and helps with naps (ds won't nap unless covered!)

ShoeJunkie · 31/03/2015 20:56

We bought a cheap quinny zapp from eBay (came with a travel bag). Folds up small but doesn't recline. The zapp extra does though I think.

Waggamamma · 31/03/2015 21:18

We have a quinny zapp which is great and compact but doesn't recline so no good for naps and no shopping basket.

Also have a Silver Cross Pop and it has been everywhere with us, good hood, reclines, basket etc. I also got it for £20 on gumtree so I don't mind when it gets covered in suncream, juice, ice cream, sand...I have also taken the covers off a machine washed themSmile .

Get yourself a koo-di sunshade too.

allotherusernamesaretaken · 01/04/2015 20:56

We take our cameleon, pack it in its travel bag and check it in, either at gate or with the bags

Hersetta427 · 01/04/2015 22:53

I travel a lot alone with the kids so needed a buggy that I could collapse one handed whilst I held baby with other arm. I bought the Maclaren techno St and seven yrs and two children later it is still being used. Not the cheapest option but they last for ever.
