Rear facing ( what's the best one )

Hi ladies

Just wondering what the best rear facing car seat is, my dd is 20 months and needs another car seat but it's difficult to know what's best

I am interested in a rear facing and isofix car seat that we could possibly use until she is 4

Thanks

Don't know about the best but we purchased the joie I anchor as it is quite compact and relatively inexpensive compared to some. It also had a long leg which worked with out car with storage compartments. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some of the others but has a 5 point harness and was designed by same people that design maxi cosi but is cheaper due to less overheads.

We have a BeSafe Izi Combi Isofix X3. I am very happy with it. My dd is a petite 19mo and she will still fit in it when she is 6 if she stays on 2nd percentile! It is quite bulky but I have a Rav 4 so it has plenty of space. My mum drives a Corsa and has a Britax Dualfix that swivels round so can be forward or rearwards facing and also faces sideways so its easy for to get dd in and out. She loves it.

I've got the BeSafe, it's fantastic but heavy and difficult to move - one to stay in the same car. Britax Two Way elite is excellent if needs to move in and out of the car often. If you're within a couple of hours drive of Milton Keynes, make an appointment at the In Car Safety Centre, I get all my car seats there.

Ooh yes forgot to say I got my seat ftom My Precious Cargo in Basingstoke if you are nearby, would highly recommend.

I've got the Britax two way, I've only had it a month after pouring over car seat reviews. I wanted a rear facing for my 18 month old. It is quite bulky but I think they all are really and it fits fine in my Clio. She seems really comfortable in it and it looks as nice as a car seat can! Hopefully it will last until she is 4.
I got it from Mothercare and it was a bit of a hassle. It hasn't been tested in my car but had in OH's so they wouldn't fit it even though my car manual said it was suitable. No great shakes but they had to order it and I had to have it delivered to home which was 2 days spent in waiting for it!

I love our Sirona, the swivel is great and that you can tilt it easily for napping. but I'm not sure if it will last us until DS is 4, as he's a very tall baby.
It's heavy, but otherwise also very simple to swap between cars, just click in.

worldgonecrazy · 27/03/2015 09:31

We had the Besafe one too - we ended up buying two of them as they are quite heavy to move around. However they do have a good resale value - I ended up selling ours for just under £100 each. (I know they say don't buy second hand because you don't know the history but ours were in very good condition when we sold them)

We now have a forward facing Cybex (DD is now 5 years old) and I was impressed with some of the Cybex rear facing seats so it might be worth a look at those.

Piffyonarockbun · 27/03/2015 17:25

We have 2 cybex sironas (one for each car). I love that we can turn them as it makes it so much easier to get in and out. The straps are lovely and easy to adjust too. She does look a bit like she is captaining the starship enterprise but I feel confident that its a very safe choice. Grin

We have a Be Safe. I'm just about to move my average sized nearly 4 year old out of it, he's starting to look cramped and can't get in and out on his own (it would be a massive help to me if he could as I have a baby, and another older DC). Agree about if being big and a pain to move, but those issues aside we have really liked it. Your child sits really high up so gets a good view. We bought through John Lewis: the polystyrene cracked a couple of times, but JL were always good about quickly arranging replacement parts at no cost to us.

We have the cybex sirona and have been really happy with it, our car was written off in a rear end smash and my dd (19 months at the time) came out without a scratch thanks to the sirona - we went straight out and bought another one! We got ours in mamas and papas.

Iwillorderthefood · 27/03/2015 21:17

I am really confused about this. We have an smax and would love to know what other people's experiences are. I am most interested in the axissfit and the brutal dualfix.

GammaDelta · 27/03/2015 22:04

an extended rear facing (ERF) car seat will rarely last till your kid is 4 years old.. They are usually much too small for that like cybex sirona. i had looked at hauck varioguard and casual play bicare fix.. which seemed a bit bigger and could fit in my 3 door Peugeot.. went for bicarefix at the end and pleased with it so far

threegoingonthirty · 28/03/2015 09:16

My daughter was in her ERF seat until 4 1/2 and could have got another six months out of it but I needed it for her little brother. I know loads of people whose children have been in ERF seats over 4.

Alwaysinahurrynow · 28/03/2015 09:25

We've got two dualfix and really like it. There is a controversial which report out on it, but after speaking to one of the rear car facing specialists I am still happy with it.

TinyTearsFirstLove · 28/03/2015 23:57

My child is 6 and is still ERF. Theoretically, she could still be doing it until at least age 8 if I use a seat up to 25kg, that will last most kids until at least 4 years old. My rather large 5 year old is still RF.

Blankiefan · 29/03/2015 11:04

We got the maxicosi two way pearl. We've got it rear facing and plan to keep it that way as long as possible but you can turn it if she really rebels at some point.

Great chair. Quite moveable. Isofix. Can be rear facing up to 4yo.

Not cheap (about £370) but very happy with purchase.
