Crap afternoon with toddler

Hi,
My 2.5 year old didn't sleep very well last night and also didn't have a nap today. This afternoon she was being very difficult and I made her some warm milk and sat her on my lap to drink it and chill out. She spat a huge mouthfull of it at me and in the panic I let go of her and she fell on the floor, bumping her bottom. She cried and I felt really awful. Then she refused to brush her teeth so I held her on my lap and did them (as I always do - she has to do them every day) and she got really agitated. Calmed down for story and bed then straight to sleep for an early night. I feel terrible.

Don't feel terrible! It is really hard and we all have bad days. You sound like you're doing a wonderful job, especially as LO is fast asleep already!
Last night was dreadful here too and I feel awful today. A bit of sleep and it'll all seem better tomorrow.... I'm hoping....

I've got a 2.5 year old too. It's so hard. That would be a pretty standard day for us, I think you're doing brilliantly. Brew

They are like tiny cave people and totally unreasonable. Apparently you miss the toddler stage once they're teenagers. Smile

Ah sleep, the elixir of life - and a lack of which can excuse most things! I probably would have dumped mine on the floor unceremoniously if they'd done that, so don't feel bad.

Tomorrow will be better. In the meantime, get an early night and eat chocolate :)

OP that sounds like pretty much every day of my life when I had DC that age. They would have a meltdown about anything, approximately 400 times a day, refuse ANYthing I wanted them to do/eat/whatever and any available liquid would end up everywhere. "Being difficult" is the default setting for most 2yos! If she's not normally like that, it could be she's coming down with a cold or something but bad days happen and you did your best.

It's not your fault about the falling off your lap and in a way it's a natural consequence that it won't do her any harm to learn.

You're both only human. It happens to all of us sometimes. It's sounds like she's not too traumatised if she's asleep already. Just tired!

I hope tomorrow is a better day .

Thank you all. I forgot to mention that I am almost 9 months pregnant, so probably not seeing things completely clearly! I just wanted to check I hadn't done anything really awful.
