Hours of cartoons when sick

18mo has a sickness bug. I'm guessing we're totalling 2-3hrs of YouTube a day at the moment. She's too poorly to run around and just wants to cuddle and watch a certain pig. I'm clearly more worried about her bug, but in the background I have a fear she's going to insist on playing with my iPhone forever more...Thoughts? Thanks so much Smile

I'm no expert, but over here we do just the same. I don't think it'll have serious long term impact

My DS is 13 months and I'm worried about the same. He has a bug and is super moany at the minute. I don't want him to get used to it, he normally doesn't watch it at all. I feel so guilty Confused

When I am ill I lay in bed watching tv (or I did before I had the dc)

They do the same. Then they get better and go back to playing and watching a small amount of TV. Don't worry and certainly don't feel guilty

Yep, 18mo, scarlet fever, as much tv as I could get him to sit still for (which was only a couple of hours despite him being all over the place) as I think I am coming down with it too. Just have story books and trips planned for when she gets better so the tv/phone isn't a distraction!

Oh thank you so much all of you, and for those of you who are poorly or have poorly little ones, I hope you all get well really soon. I'm SO bored of preschool cartoons - I have the theme tune to Peppa pig going round my head! She normally only watches youtube when I'm drinking my coffee in the morning for 15mins so hopefully this will be enough for a year. Thanks though - just feel bad that when she sees my phone she now asks for Peppa.... Confused

Mine have been through phases of 'too much telly'. When you decide to cut it down they do get used to it quite quickly. So dont feel like its a 'slippery slope' - just restrict to a level you are comfortable with when you are ready.

Ds(3) is sick today, he's curled up on the sofa and the tv has been on (With a brief break to read his new peppa pig magazine) since he got up. He doesn't want to do anything else, and when he's poorly I'm not inclined to make him. You can't force them to play when they're feeling like crap.

Consider it good for language development if you feel bad :)

My 2.6yo watches tonnes of to when she's not well, along with Gruffalo and Room on the Broom DVDs.

2yo DD was really poorly running up to Xmas. I can confirm if she was awake we watched peppa for almost a week. We went back to a normal routine as soon as she was better and no drama- she was raring to do other things when she felt better Smile
