I'm 32 with 5 dc. I'm not great with a buggy, despite owning the most compact double buggy I could find, there are marks on the walls of the school corridors and drs surgery where I have accidently scraped the walls/door frames with the buggy. My mum and the HV keep nagging me to learn to drive as I will be more independent. I'm not good with busses either as it takes me ages to fold up the buggy and the driver shouts at me if I'm not quick enough. So I just wait for a free wheelchair space and just get off if a wheelchair user gets on. It's fine but it takes me forever to get anywhere.

DH thinks I will never be able to learn to drive and trying will be a waste of money. I'm worried about causing an accident as a car is a lot bigger and more dangerous than a buggy. My mum thinks I should at least try and I might be good at it. It's a lot of money for a provisional licence and a few lessons if there is no hope of me ever passing my test and it would probably take at least 2 or 3 before I knew if there was any point carrying on.

My husband is dysphraxic and has similar challenges to you - he drives. Ymmv but I think you should give it a try. Good luck!

Maybe you could have automatic lessons. I know it limits the choice of cars that you can actually buy but driving an automatic car is soooooo much easier than a manual.

I work in driver training and have taught a couple of dyspraxic people over the years. It is very challenging for the pupil (and the instructor!). I second what the pp said about trying automatic as it is much easier and doesn't require as much co-ordination.
