Newborn reusable nappies

Hi All,

Can I ask what you all used for new born reusable? Or eco disposables?

I think I will give the bumgenius Elemental/freetime for daytime and then bamboozle with blueberry or motherease wraps for night time. I just wanted to know what you all used for newborn? Was it something different or similar to the above?

I've seen the bumghenius newborn bumgenius teeny and the bumgenoius stretch, what about nighttime newborns?

Sorry for the questions. I have contacted the nappy lady and some of the above are her suggestions, but nothing really for newborn specific.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Jubles, I haven't heard of those before.

What sort of reusable wipes has everyone tried. I've seen the cheeky wipes and bog standard terry type nappies. Do you have to store them damp in oils of various kinds or can you just damp them before use in water?

Ds went into reusables at 5 days, a mix of prefolds and fitteds with wraps and newborn cheapie pockets. He still wears fitteds with wool covers at night age 2 1/2

Squish due in September will go into size 1 fitteds with wool covers from birth. I've got a few pockets as back up and will probably grab some flats too for the first couple of weeks in case the fitteds are too big to contain runny poo!

Leaks on ds1 were invariably a combination of user error and a nappy that just wasn't the right shape for him.

We didn't start right at the beginning but DD was very small and only around 8lb when we started using washables. We used prefolds with XS or S Motherease Rikki wraps (with velcro) and Little Lamb size 1 wraps and we also used Little Lamb size 1 bamboo nappies for night time.

When she was a tiny bit bigger we found Pop-ins were the best all-in-ones as they pop down very small. DH is a big fan of these (me not so much, as I find it hard to get the velcro on/off at the back). We didn't use the soaker (the extra booster in the middle) to start with to make them trimmer.

I really like the LL bamboo fitteds but they take aaaages to dry and with frequent newborn nappy changes that's a pain.

As far as wipes we use the Pop-in ones, we had some old ones that are v big and great but they are kind of wearing out, then they did some that were really too small but the current size are good, about 8" by 6". We use 2tbsp olive oil, 2tbsp baby bath, couple of drops tea tree oil in a pint of water, in an old Huggies wipes box (it's hard to get the plastic wipes boxes any more sadly)

We started using cloth nappies within the first week and lo was 6lbs 10oz at birth. They were actually more reliable for us than disposables as kept runny breastfed poo in.

We used small prefolds, xs and s motherease sandys with thirsties duo wraps size 1, bummis wraps and a little lamb wrap too I think. They were great, poo sometimes got out nappy but was then caught by wrap. The sandys are ridiculously cute too! Grin
Bambino mio are releasing a special pack of 4 prefolds and 2 wraps in size one for ALDI. Go on sale 28th May for £15, well worth a try I'd say! (I'm buying a pack in hope of baby number 2)

Cloth wipes are great, we use ikea facecloth and tk max occasionally have cloth wipes or little packs of baby facecloths. We store ours dry and just wet as required with warm water.

Now we use mainly bumgenius flips or freetimes although we have grovia all in two nappies which did fit from very small.

Muslin nappies were brilliant for my newborns, and they got cut up after for extra linings in nighttime nappies.
I liked them cos you could try different folds as they grew. Good luck!

Used Muslins and terry squares for the first few months with all 3 of mine. In fact always used terry squares amongst other brands until they were out of nappies.
Muslins are great for the first couple of weeks they poo so much that you are constantly changing and they don't have a nappy on long enough to be full of pee either.
Terry squares great for that in between newborn and big enough for the size you'll actually use right through.
Youngest is nearly 5 now and still have the odd nappy and muslin square around for cleaning jobs too so definitely got my money's worth.
