toy advice for 2mnth old bumbo jumperoo

Hi my dd is 10weeks and enjoys sitting up with support. Her head control is pretty good. I'm looking for something more upright than her bouncy chair for her to enjoy. So i know a bumbo would work but it has limited use, could i pad out the seat of a jumperoo so that she could use it when shes a bit older? The jumperoo is recommended from 6mnths but I'm certain she'll be able to enjoy one sooner. Is it just an ability thing or to do with the position - developing bones etc? Any other ideas?

Babies of 10 weeks don't really need toys or things to help them sit up, but....

I'd recommend an inflatable ring like this

Do some research on bumbos, they have largely be discredited recently as they hold baby in an unnatural position and are a fall hazard. Jumperoo I think many people do put a cushion under baby to start with so they can reach the ground but i woukd say still too young, I'd wait until at least baby can hold their head up by themselves all of the time. Otherwise I can't imagine jiggling would be good for little neck muscles still developing.

All of the above can be picked up for a lot less than new at second hand baby sales as they are generally invaluable for a few months then quickly outgrown.

At two months, and for another few months at least, your baby's neck muscles and spine are not strong enough to hold the huge weight of her head. At this stage her head is about 25% of her body weight - your head is about 8%. Necks and spines are not designed to hold that weight.

Leave her in her bouncy chair, or lay her flat to kick her legs in the air, or hold her leaning on your body. There is no need to rush these things, and it is worth waiting a while to look after her neck and spine while it grows and strengthens, and while her head becomes proportionately smaller.

I looked after one of my GD as her Mum had PND. I bought a vibrating chair and a Fisher Price Jumperoo. It is a brilliant piece of kit, worth every penny.
She was six months old.

I would suggest that you actually get her something to lay down on, rather than to try and sit her up. So a play mat, play gym etc. then get her doing some time on her front, so she can work on strengthening her neck muscles and upper body. You can get some nice mats designed for tummy time.

I'd hold off on the jumperoo for a bit, my DD is 6 months and has only just been ready for this he jumperoo since 5 1/2 months - despite loving being sat/held upright from a few weeks old (reflux baby), she just wouldn't have been strong enough before then, and she's always been very strong for her age and done physical things early.

Could you try a play gym to entertain her? It will help her learn to reach out and roll around a bit :)
