Ds is tongue tied he has an appointment in a couple of weeks to have it cut. Because of the tongue tie every time he has a feed he spits a lot of the milk out so I'm never fully sure how much he's actually taken. I have to use a tea towel under his chin to catch the drips otherwise his clothes and bib end up saturated.
I want to know others experiences of tongue tied babies. What was the procedure like and how was baby during and after it being done? And also will the spitting and dripping stop straight away?

How old is he?

Both mine have had tongue ties divided. DS1 about 5 weeks, DS2 (milder!) about 3 weeks old. DS1 seemed to need to re-learn how to feed, and we had a horrendous time 24-48 hrs after the divide where I really struggled to get him latched on.
DS2 didn't seem to have any issues adjusting, but he did start gaining weight at a reasonable pace straight away. Neither regained birth weight til after the divide.

The actual procedure is fine - assuming he is under 12 weeks? Swaddle them up, and one snip with some scissors. Feed straight away if poss.

Yes he'll be 6wks. He's already gone past his birth weight although only just.

The procedure was fine. Over quickly and ds wasn't overly distressed. We were using nipple shields from day 2 so he had to learn from scratch to latch but picked it up instantly. My issue was that nipple shields and formula top ups had damaged my supply so it took a good few weeks to build it back up again but he feeds brilliantly now.
Well worth getting it done

Ds was only 17 days old when he has his done. I still have scars on my bloody nipples caused by the damage done in those 17 days. He wasn't gaining weight and feeding was agony which was how we got a referral.
The procedure is really straight forward, they swaddled him and the registrar snipped it with scissors (I felt really squeemish and a bit tearful). He cried for a couple of minutes and there was a tiny amount of blood but he was on the boob within 2 minutes and was absolutely fine then. Feeding become much easier.
