waking baby up during day for feed

Another first time mummy question! my dd is 3 days old and sleeps well during the day, about 5-6 hours at a go. Midwife told me she should br fed every 3-4 hrs and that I should wake her up. last time she fed was 9.30am. it's now 2.15 and she's fast asleep. I've tried to wake her but she's having none of it, also tried to just put the bottle teat in her mouth but again she wouldn't take it.

should I wait for her to initiate the feed or continue to try asleep force her to wake up?!

At the age I'd say go with midwife's advice and wake her. Babies' tummies are so little at the stage which is one of the reasons they need to feed often as they aren't able to have much at each feed. Congratulations btw! Smile

Yes wake her up try changing her nappy to wake her

Wake her. 3 days is too tiny to go that long without a feed. Babies this little can get into a cycle whereby they don't feed and get sleepy and then are too sleepy to feed IYSWIM. As pp said, get her undressed to rouse her a bit. Congratulations!

I'd definitely wake her.
Congratulations!

How are you getting on now? I'd wake her every 3 hours in the day and every 4 at night at the moment. Their little tummies are so tiny Smile

Congratulations!
Definitely wake her when that happens. My DD got into the cycle Nick describes. We had to strip down to nappy for every feed, and change nappy between sides to wake her a bit more. It's hard to wake them - and keep them awake! - but can be done.

nappy change seems to be the only way to wake her, screaming match every time, she hates it! Once she's wrapped back up and had a feed though she's out for the count again Smile

thanks for the advice everyone

I've been waking mine. A nappy change usually works a treat :)
