Eye tests for kids

Is this something everyone but me has done regularly? My DC are 11 and 12 and will be having their first eye test next week as DD said she couldn't see the time on the clock. My friend said it's something you have done every year like dentists, you just do it. Cue me feeling like a rubbish mum, but I thought they had them tested at school (I remember having mine done at school), and neither ever seemed to have a problem seeing before. How often do you get your kids eyes tested?

I've never took mine to have their eyes tested!!!! I'm sure when they're around 4 the school/hv test them but other than that unless any problems are highlighted then you wouldn't take them for regular tests but I may be wrong

I didn't have regular eye tests till I started driving!

DSs do have regular ones, but only because the pre-school eye test picked up an inbalance in DS1's eyes (cue glasses and patching and 6 monthly trips to the hospital), so when he goes to the optician, DS2 goes too.

Don't beat yourself up about it.

dd had her first eye test at 18 months as she had a squint - she wears glasses and has an annual eye test. DS got his first eye test at 4ish I think plus the one he got at nursery before he started school. He doesnt wear glasses and gets an annual eye test.

I have an eye test every 2 years and have a small prescription and am supposed to wear my glasses for reading. I only got glasses 2 years ago at the age of 39/40.

Children should get an eye test every year so they can pick up issues quickly. My 2 get a recall letter from the optician each year to remind us to make an appointment.
