should i call the rspca?

wasnt sure where to post this so apologies if i got it wrong.

We moved in October last year and i quickly noticed that one of the neighbours is a bit odd. Never opens his curtains type. He has a HUGE dog, its massive but he is regularly out and never walks it. The gardens are small so it must get nothing more than a place to poo.

Since noticing two other neighbours have mentioned it to me. It seems is been this way for years.

It really upsets me to think of this poor dog never being let out and I'm tempted to call the rspca. But part of me thinks, its been like that for years should i bother? The dog might love him to bits, what would happen to it if they took it away :-(

What should i do?!

The RSPCA will not be interested unless the dog is being mistreated as in beaten / not fed or watered . How do you know that the dog never gets walked ,he might take it out in the middle of the night .

Ring them tell them your concerns. They will probably visit the house and see the dog is loved and cared for they're not going to take it away maybe your neighbour just needs a little bit of help and education about looking after the dog which the rspca will do.

Floral - you may be right, but I'm very doubtful.

a few times I've walked past the window the dog leaps up and scratches at the glass. It'll give way one of these days! But other times he doesn't stir. It makes me wonder if he keeps it tied up or something and sometimes it escapes.

I wouldn't call the rapca but find a local charity and ask th for advice. Even if you managed to get the rspca interested and they took the dog chances are they'd only put it down.

Plus the rspca don't actually have anymore rights than you or I to take the animal!! They just have a nice big purse for all their daft private prosecutions

It doesn't sound right does it. I am not sure what to do is - I have a feeling if this creature is indoors, and has food and water, the RSPCA would do nothing.

You can report your own post and ask MNHQ to kindly move this to "The doghouse" threads in the Pets section.
