you logged on to the school website and found your child was in one of the pictures and the school hadn't mentioned it or asked for permission?

No, I would feel proud. As long as their name and address wasn't mentioned I wouldn't feel annoyed.

Angeliz · 27/04/2004 09:44

Yes.

I'd probably doubt myself and think,"am i being silly?", (as you seem to be doing), but i would be annoyed.

marialuisa · 27/04/2004 09:45

not really. but we signed something with the admission forms agreeing for her image to be used in prospectus etc. I think it also covered photos of her on the walls in school.

Yes - but are you sure upi didn't sign a collective authority at the beginning of the school year or even when your child started school.

Hulababy · 27/04/2004 10:02

No I wouldn't, but as Goosey says, only so long as her details such as name, age, etc. weren't there as well. Quite often permission for this is given on signing a form at start of year, or more likely on entering the school. I am sure the school won't mind if you query it - and if it does bother you ask for your child's photo to be removed if possible.

i wouldnt mind personally, but as a teacher i know that WE are not allowed to do that without prior consent...check it out

toddlerbob · 27/04/2004 20:28

I would be as I know they should get permission for this sort of thing, even if it's a one time, we can use your child's image for everything contract at the start. This sort of thing used to be my job so I'm always ultra cautious though.

popsycal · 27/04/2004 20:32

we send out consent forms every year for a variety of things to do with photos, one of which is publishing them on the internet

even if parents agree that their children's photos can go on the internet (and mamy don't), the rule of thumb is that if a child's photo appears, their name does not, and vice versa.

I would query this...

look at this link

it is from the national grid for learning - a site which schools use all around the country.....

it gives advice to schools setting up websites.....they should comply with these issues - the LEA will have advised them of such matters if they had consulted with them when setting the website up

That is so strange that you should post that Linzoid because that very same thing has happened at dd's school. I logged on to the site in the holidays and they had a listing of all the classes. Anyway clicked on dd's class and there she was. I actually thought it was sweet and for some reason haven't even thought about the consent issue.
Anyway........ a newsletter was sent home this week as parents from the Reception and Nursery classes had complained. There had been a mix-up and they had got permission from all the classes, except Nursery and Reception. Some of the parents were not very pleased, I was okay as long as names, persoanl details weren't mentioned. The school has suspended the webiste until they have received letters from all of the parents who DO NOT want there children in photos.
It's just really strange that you should post that as I was only having a discussion in the playground this morning about it!

I'd be delighted and bore my family to tears with a link.

jasper · 27/04/2004 23:29

Not the same thing but some years back a 3x2 feet graduation picture of me appeared in a photographer's advert in Central station in Glasgow. Noone had asked my permission but I was quite proud.

Also a large wedding picture of me and my dh was in the foyer of a hotel in Ayr ...even after we divorced
