Where do you put your child?!

I have a 5 week old who mostly spends his time in the day in the moses basket, on me feeding, or laying on me cuddling or napping. We have started to spend time in the bouncy chair and on the playmat as he's getting more alert. does this sound about right?

Once he had grown out of the basket where would he go in the day? I'm assuming by the time he's grown out of it he'll be in a little bit more of a routine and so will go down for set naps rather than sleeping most of the time like he does now. So where will he be when awake in the day?

When small mostly on me, or lying on the sofa/floor next to me! Until she could crawly she was occassionally in bouncy chair when I was eating/showering but otherwise pretty much on me!

I dont think you can really get it wrong when they/re small to be honest. AS long as they are happy (and usually that means fed/clean and youre in sight) they're fine!

We mostly used the bouncy chair and the playmat when DS was small.

Try not to worry, he'll be in his Moses basket for a while yet Smile

After about 3/4 months, my son was either in the bouncy chair, carried in a sling or in the baby gym during the day. Another option would be to pop him in the pram. As he's a wriggly boy of 7 months now,he's either in the travel cot/playpen or on a padded playmat on the floor.

Ok phew. I thought I was going to be told you all play with them constantly and have structured activity time!

From what I remember about ds' early months, he seemed to spend most of his time on the living room floor! He was happy there, had toys within reach that he would reach for and grab (when he was a few months old), and was safe there. I used to play with and chat to him quite a lot but would also get on with my day - go to the loo, get dinner and cups of tea, watch tv etc.
Dd practically lived in her mechanical swing and then, later, her rotating seat thing that had toys and rattles attached.

Dd was in a sling from tiny, she was just tied on then I got on with my day.

babybjörn bouncer, he loved to sit and look around. Also playpen.

Bouncer or blanket on the floor, you can't fall off the floor :)

We had a bouncy chair and a Sheep baby gym (which we called "the dead sheep"Smile) both of which he loved. Either that or he was on me. As he got a bit older we had a bumbo, a jumparoo and a playmat thing.

yep, same here - on a playmat on the floor, or in a bouncy chair, sometimes on the sofa next to me :)

I had to go and look after one of my GD when her Mum had PND. I bought a Fisher Price Jumperooo. What a lovely bit of kit. She loved it and I loved it. You can't use it until they can hold their heads up.
I also bought a vibrating chair which was also a godsend. I couldn't let her cry because her Mummy needed to sleep. I also went out every day as the walk was good for both of us. Her, because she liked the motion and me because as soon as she nodded off I went into a local coffee shop and rewarded myself.

Play mat which has "danglies" and textures - bought 1 month, still uses 6 months As she's grown she's moved from watching them with the fucking annoying music on to batting them about to kicking and pressing buttons that make more annoying sounds. She also loves the textures and padding. Ours cost a bit (£40/50 I think) because of the wonderful (!!) music and flashy lights but a more basic one would do the same job.
It's easy clean and floor level so very safe too.

When really little: Moses basket and sling.
Then: bouncy chair, play gym and sling, plus tummy time on floor
Then (when sitting independently): mostly on play mat on floor with a range of toys/discovery basket
Then: crawling around everywhere, opening all the cupboards, emptying them and generally wreaking havoc wherever he goes.
(Enjoy the moses basket time...!)
