I was speaking to a mum the other day who said she would not be letting her ds go this halloween as she thought it was not giving out a very good message to children..ie give us some sweets or we will play a trick on you...
My mum never let me do it either..she said it was begging
I will let mine go..of course I will be going with them...
Any opinions?

Connect your doorbell to your electricity!

But make sure you have suitable warning poster on front door: "Frying Tonight"

We gets loads of trick or treaters here but we do decorate all our porch so they 'know' they are safe to come. I love it and had DD dressed up today at toddlers (it was a halloween party!). I think if you live in a small/safe area and people decorate their doors/porches etc then it's OK to knock.

I plan to take DD when she is older but only to the people I know/who decorate etc. And she will not accept money, only sweets.

I think the little ones really look forward to it all - it's very exciting for them (unless they get scared of course!). Agree that teens are a bit more a nuisance esp if all they want is money!

DD will be dressed up tomorrow night to answer the door with me and hand out the sweets.

Oh and round here the kids only take one sweet from a huge bowl full - how's that for manners!!

RancidRhubarb - I like the way you think - LOL at "Connect your doorbell to your electricity!" !

I had two medium sized ones (am not good with ages) around last Wednesday Thought it was my Chinese take-away delivery man ringing on the door and answered it with £15 in my hand ... for a few nano-seconds you could see on their faces that they thought all their Christmas's had come at once ... until I told them that they were a week early and I didn't have anything in for them (no yucky marshmallows as is my bah-humbug custom)

Yes - but only in our street, only to people ds already knows, only accompanied, "trick" is nothing worse than scary noises, and "treat" is kept to very limited proportions (around here it's often apples or satsumas anyway).
