What age did your child stop using a highchair and what do you use instead? How do you find it?

I stopped when DD started turning into a plank when I'd try to put her in the high chair. I got a booster seat instead, which I bought on Amazon.

I think DD was around 18 months. She flat out refused to sit in the thing, and was already uninterested in food so the highchair was just another battle we didn't need to have.

We switched to a booster and she was much happier to sit (and eat!). She's just been using a dining chair and kneeling on it since she was about 2.5, I think. She's very good at the table now.

We have trip trap chairs so just took harness park on and converted into chair. Very good as even adults can use

About 18 months, and into a booster at the table.
About 3, he just sat on the chair, nose about evel with his plate (his insistance!)

We always used a booster seat. We took the tray off around 2 - 2 1/2 and just used the harness instead. Dc were up at the table from about 18 minths but the tray was handy for catching a lot of the dropped food.

I think each of mine have been about 18 months at most. We have junior chairs from Ikea which work well so they can see what they're eating - when out though, they just sit on normal chairs (sometimes on their knees though)

We used a booster with DD but when she was 3 we bought one of these:

It's been great as it's the right height without her needing to kneel on anything and my 6 yr old niece is still using hers so think it'll last a while.

Some high chairs have weight limits. Check if yours does, and if your DC is getting close to it. DD refused the high chair long before she was too big for it, but that might not be the case with some kids and some high chairs. Otherwise, if it's not too much of a pain for you to deal with the high chair, and your DC is OK with it, don't worry about it. My sister slept in a crib till she was 4. She's now a normal adult (probably more normal than me, actually).

18 months, into an IKEA junior chair.

Handysitt - used it through 2 children (over 4 years), took it to friends, on holiday etc. Children use it on top of a normal backed chair.

We bought 18mo DD a little toddler table and chairs about two months ago. It's similar to what she's used to at nursery and she LOVES it. We only have to say 'dinner time' and she trots off and sits down, but we are lucky she's a good eater. It doubles as a play table so is a brilliant addition if you have the space.

JuniperTisane · 09/03/2015 17:11

Ikea's Urban junior chair here too when ds2 was big enough for it. Ds1 had a booster seat but it wasn't the best really, he was never quite high enough in it.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 09/03/2015 17:12

We've only ever had a highchair that clips on to the table so DD feels like she's having meals with us. I'll switch to a normal booster when she's too big for it (she's 16 months at the moment). We use a booster at my dads and she's fine with it.

heymammy · 09/03/2015 17:23

We too have Tripp trapp chairs. We took the baby set off at around 14 months so now it's just a normal chair. They last and last...my 8 yr old still uses hers!
