Hello ladies, im currently 18 weeks pregnant and very excited about baby-wearing.. ive been looking into wraps and i quite like the ergo but i think i may go for an option on Etsy instead. They seem to have nicer patterns and styles.

This one www.etsy.com/uk/listing/223110037/baby-wrap-baby-carrier-baby-sling-baby?ref=shop_home_active_1

I absolutely love, and the other ones in her shop.. because they turn inside out and you can put them into the front pocket to store them in your handbag if they get covered in sick/poo etc.

Can i have some advice/opinions? Do these look safe? practical? reasonable?

Thankyou!! x

The white piece of fabric seems a bit too stretchy for me. I'm in no means an expert but did use my Mobu wrap a lot with DD.

No way will a wrap like that last to that weight limit.

I don't really understand the pocket bit. Do you just tie it like a Moby/kari-me and add the pocket as decoration? Sounds like a faff you'd ditch after a while. A plastic bag in yoru handbag will do the same job as storage (although a decent thickness of fabric is surprisingly large when rolled/stuffed.)

I'm not familiar with Ergo doing a wrap (if that's what you mean). I really rate Ergo/Maduca etc SSCs for older babies though. Once they get past about six months stretchy wraps don't really work.

Im pretty sure the pocket is sewn in and works as decoration/storage, you couldnt ditch it cause its attached!

From what i got from emailing the girl you tie it like a moby but instead of a little label at the front it has a big patch/pocket which works as extra support as well as being more interesting than just a plain one..

Hmm.. ill look at the Kari-me. These are just the only ones i've found that are pretty and not insane cost wise?

Hmmm my advice would be to try to borrow a moby/ close caboo and see if you like it when the baby comes along. With dd1 I got a moby but she was a giant wriggly colicky baby and trying to wrap her in it was like wrestling an eel! With ds I have a structured carrier (Manduca) and a connecta which is quick and easy. He is a big boy and again I think it would have been tricky wrapping him tight enough. I sold my Moby for approx what I paid and this is the big bonus with branded slings. Lkkewise when I sold a ring sling that was uncomfy I lost about a fiver all in all. Good luck, there are lots of different styles etc so you will find one that suits.

Right that is what is generally known as a stretchy wrap, fab for newborns and generally just handy for popping baby in and out of. Now you can get custom ones from Victoria Sling lady on FB and other spots.

Now, if you want pretty that lasts. You want to look for the Babywearing FSOT group or slings and things group on facebook. There are hundreds of different types of slings and wraps, some ugly and some are beyond beautiful. I've had allsorts come in and out of my house over the last few years and I honestly don't think you can go fair wrong with a sling.

If you want links, just pm me and I'll get some to you. Grin

Oh I see. Less of a faff then (though I don't see how it gives extra support TBH. ).

Frankly, a stretchy wrap is just a big bit of strong enough fabric. I am sure that these will do the job.

You could get second hand kari me or Moby for less on ebay I'd have thought.

Wraps don't last long (if they are stretchy rather than woven). It's an inherent feature of the way they tie and the fabric. So you are right not to want to spend a fortune.

I would be hesitant to buy a carrier like this in case it hadn't been properly tested.

There are lots of very reputable custom carrier makers out there though but this doesn't look very comfortable for long term wear.

There are LOTs of really beautiful styles out there for buckled carriers like an ergo, you could look at tie off carriers too.

Connecta
Mai Tais
Wompats
beco
Manducas

For little babies, stretchy wraps are perfect. Moby and Close caboo type carrier are really great.

I use a woven wrap now with my DS as I've never really got on with buckles but I've tried a Connecta and Wompat (but when DS was a bit older).

I bought my first carrier, a Girasol ring sling of Love2bnatural.co.uk their prices are great and they send chocolate with your order! Grin

The thing with a wrap carrier like this though is that there isn't a great deal that can be 'wrong'. If the fabric isn't strong enough it will just drag and be uncomfortable. It's not like a fake ergo where a buckle could snap without warning and drop the baby!

Totally agree with the central point though. And beware of ebay for anything which could be faked!
