My just 4 year old beeds to earn £4 to replace a toy of her brothers she broke. Can you think of any jobs suitable for her to do?

Tidy up
Set the table
Make their bed
Load the washing machine
Pair up the clean socks (I hate doing this but dd loves it Grin)

addictedtosugar · 09/03/2015 08:48

DS2 can strip his toddler bed (with help), and also loves washing up - although I need to re-do it.
He also lvoes helping to wash the car.
Hoover
Hand out pegs while you peg the washing out.
Put the cleen clothes in the wardrobe

I believe small children make good chimney sweeps....

( my immediate response to the thread title, sorry :). )

Well what do you want her to do Confused scrub the bathroom?! She's only just turned four. Did she break the toy deliberately? What was it?

it was an alien from scardox, and her brother is very upset.

I made the statement before i had time to think (always a problem i have) but then i have to follow through :)

actually i was thinking washing the bathroom floor, as she got it covered in play dough. and that would be a £2 job

So something biggish (she doesn't actually have to do it well but make an effort is the important thing)

she knew she shouldn't have been playing with it, and she was trying to wash it to stop it being sticky.

Washing up after the children (who have melamine plates/cups etc) using a toilet step. My DD loves it so her job is to clean up after they have breakfast :-)

SpottyTeacakes · 09/03/2015 10:35

I think cleaning the floor is a bit harsh. I wouldn't want my dd touching floor cleaner. Maybe make her do the same thing for a week (ie setting the table) as after the first two days she will be bored and see it as a chore rather than a novelty.

It doesn't sounds like she broke the toy on purpose although I get that she shouldn't have had it in the first place.

0x530x610x750x630x79 · 09/03/2015 11:01

oh gosh, i wasn't going to add any floor cleaner to the water, they don't make rubber gloves that small, the bathroom is very very small. can just fit 2 adults in stood up

sock pairing
sorting laundry into piles according to owner

SpottyTeacakes · 09/03/2015 14:26

I think you're being a bit mean! All suggestions above seem fine to me but scrubbing the floor is OTT IMO.

0x530x610x750x630x79 · 09/03/2015 14:43

i said washing NOT scrubbing, we have a perfectly working mop and bucket it will take 10 mins at max, in fact i could scrub it in 5 mins.

And it is HER play dough (and alien goo) on the floor she will be washing off.

i know that a 4 min sit on the naughty step would just run off her, and not be remembered once she was 2 steps from the stairs.

i like laundry sorting as well.

SpottyTeacakes · 09/03/2015 14:50

Well I think the naughty step is ridiculous too Grin

It seems you have already decided anyway. Hopefully she won't touch things she's not supposed to again.

cartoonsaveme · 09/03/2015 16:02

Great idea. Mine would be make bed, pick up toys and tidy room and playroom, set table, pair socks, empty washer into basket, help me put washing on dryer, feed cat by filling bowl, tidy up bath toys, use dust pan to sweep up mess she has dropped under dinner table, help put recycling out etc - similar things that they have to do at school

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 09/03/2015 16:08

Hoover, put recycling out, tidy up something in the garden.

rosedavo · 09/03/2015 22:46

Wouldnt a 4yr old find hoovering a bit hard? Helping with loading dishwasher/washing machine, picking up and putting away toys/clothes

0x530x610x750x630x79 · 10/03/2015 09:30

she isn't allowed to do the table/dishwasher i don't have enough plates left from previous attempts at being helpful.

Here is an example of why i needed more sideways suggestions, this morning she was asking to wash the basin after brushing her teeth. she loves this stuff.

My 4 year old likes doing jobs round the house. I don't think I would want to give money for them, I would want her to help freely anyway.

I would get her to choose one of her toys to give to her brother in exchange. Or to take to the charity shop, or something like that, in order to "repay".

NotSos · 10/03/2015 22:02

Tidy up the shoe rack, clean the toilet/bathroom with a Flash wipe, wee damp cloth to wipe surfaces/dusting.
