Pushchair advice for a newborn & toddler.......

I'm pregnant with my second and my first is now 2.2 and even though enjoys walking often wants to get in her pushchair which suits me as i can only ever get shopping done with her firmly strapped in! The problem i have is what with the second one coming along i don't really want to go down the whole double buggy route as she may not need her pushchair for much longer and more importantly its so wide i don't fancy shopping in small shops withone! I've seem Phil & Teds and mmaljunga's with toddler seats and buggypods but am completely stucjk as to the best way to do this - does anyone have any advice on a pushchair that could mean i could take them both out init without restricting myself as to what shops i can fit into!!

would advise that p&t is your best option here.

emmaljunga drawback is that the toddler in toddler seat cant nod off and have a nap at all, which for me would be a prob, but may not be for you...

and buggypods look great but when in use are going to restrict movement in shops as it'll affectively be a side-by-side buggy.

I have a jane powertwin and its great in the shops, easy to turn and i find it easier to push than a single, it is longer than a single but not as bad as most tandems.

put off buying till the last minute tho... you can use a sling for the first few months at least, and keep your single for the older one. i found it much easier tbh, since the baby was happier being 'held' all the time (less fussing to deal with)

Sadly my DD1 never sleeps in the pushchair so the Emmaljunga issue wouldn't be a problem but they seem a lot for what they look like if that makes sense??! They cost a fortune but aren't exactly that impressive to look at but i know a pushchair is predominantly a functional item...

The jane is worth a look, i've seen the Phil & Teds around but the baby looks kind of wierdly stuffed underneath and i worry about the positioning but yes i know they wouldn't sell them if they weren't safe!

If you can get hold of a Bertini Shuttle plus toddle seat I would recommend it.

I had one for when dd was newborn and ds2 was 20 months. He never slept in the pram so it didn't matter that he couldn't.

And the toddler seat is nice and high. Ds2 loved it.

It is quite large but nowhere near as big as a double pram.

It takes up a lot of boot space too but is so easy to push, even up hills (here in Wales there are quite a few!) with both of them in, has a huge basket for shopping and a seperate zip up section in the basket so no need to take a changing bag as nappies, wipes etc all store away in there.

I loved mine and was gutted when ds2 refused to do anything but walk

when is your baby due. In 6 months time your dd will probably be very reluctant to go in a buggy indeed. Could you manage with a sling and buggy in the short term.

Well she'll be 2 yrs 8 months when the baby is born in May, i actually sort of agree which is why i am hesitant to spend a lot and am looking second hand but you never know do you? My friends child is still in a buggy at 3 but i'd like to thik she won't be....!

look out for ABC buggy company Everest with toddler seat on ebay. i think youll proba manage with a sling, but if you do want the option to have both on wheels, theres any of those ones with a toddler seat mentioned here...

or a 'sit n stand' they are new from america on ebay or come up second hand every now and then. i think 'only' about 140 quid new... seem like a good idea as older child can hop on or off, or be strapped in, whichever suits you.

sitnstand here. if you go to the sellers 'shop', they have various makes models and the lady is very helpful on email, bless 'er

personally think at 2.8yrs she probably wont need a double. Ds was 2.2yrs when dd was born and I thought he would be in the double for ages..within about 3mths he was out of it. He prefered walking so I started just taking the single pram and he walks or sometimes jumps a lift for about 3mins before DD pulls his hair..blessing in disguise as now pg with no.3 and dd will be nearly 13mths when baby is born do ds has no choice but to walk.
