I'm just wondering if people broach this subject?
Has anyone seen this video? Worth a watch...

Woah that is just what i have been thinking constantly especially as my 8y old SS is detached from reality and has massive tantrums over little stupid things. His mom let him watch ipad on his own in the morning and i'm pretty sure he must have seen disturbing pictures but as his SM i don't feel like i can try and talk to him about it. I mentioned "bad videos on the internet" before but that's about it. I'm afraid talking to him if he hasn't seen anything will make me look like a perv!! It will be better when i have my own kid but that foes scare me a lot as you can't protect them from seeing things outside the house...

I alwayas use computer monitoring software from www.familoop.com on my kid's PC. It helps me to keep an eye on them when they are online. Really useful thing

How much does family loop cost and how does it compare with other filters you have tried?

Depends on the age of the kids I suppose, most 10+ will already know a lot, due to the society we live in today. Younger kids I feel it just best to try to sensor the internet as much as possible.

Talktalk have a free filter monitoring system which I find is very good. It blocks almost everything.

You can also set your home page to www.familysafesearch.com so any online searching taking place, undesirable sites are automatically removed from the results.

Hi all. This is my first post on MN :) Offering E Safety advice to schools is part of my job and as a Dad with children aged 10, 18 and 20 I've been through this before and am currently going through it again. Blocking will only get you so far. As much as possible it's about keeping communication channels open. Trying to know what your kids are up to online is crucial. The best way to do this is to talk to them about it and to praise and encourage them asking you about signing up for any new services. It's not easy, there is little that matches being un-friended by your teenager on Facebook!
There is a great guide from the NSPCC about talking to your children about staying safe online here

Having said that activating parental controls is part of the solution. The problem is there are so many broadband providers, consoles, phones and tablets, mobile providers, streaming and catchup services. This site is extremely useful as it covers most of the possible options at home.
