Somebody please tell me it gets better! It's only day one but I hate it already! Dd is 2.5 & very much gets the potty, but will say she doesn't need the potty & then jus wee! I'm exhausted with it & I'm not even a day in! I've put a nappy on & will try again tomorrow but I'm really just fed up!! Sad

Ah, I feel your pain!

We started DD at just over 3, having put it off for ages. Day 1 she just peed everywhere, and we only got one pee in the potty when she sat on it for 20 minutes to watch TV. Day 2 she did a few pees in the potty. Day 3 she started to say she wanted to go. By about day 4-5 we felt she had pretty much got it.

I've only done it with one and I'm clearly no expert but it strikes me that often they don't know their body's signals so you have to give them a few days to learn. They won't magically know without being given some time. Yes, day 1 and cleaning pee everywhere is horrible but you need to give it a few days to see if she can get it.

I think I'm surprised because in everything else she just gets it! She's done about 4 pees on the potty & wet 5 pairs of knickers, only two were really wet though, the others a dribble Iyswim? Shes in pull ups now but I'm still taking her to the potty every hour ish to try her! Argh! I have until Friday before I'm back in work, I know I need to persevere! Did you have a treat systemcotherstone?

She's got some on the potty, that's good! That's better than our odds on day 1 Grin

She got chocolate for peeing on the potty, and in the first few days even if she started peeing herself but managed to finish off on the potty. If she sat on the potty and at least tried to go (which was her particularly problem) then she got lots of high fiving and praise. Sometimes to make it a game I'd pretend I suddenly really needed to go and got her to come with me, like a game, and show me what to do.

It's only day 1, and it's a very big thing for her to learn. Her nursery/CM should be able to carry on on Friday, if you've broken the back of it?

Tomorrow's a new day! She knows that's the plan for tomorrow so fingers crossed! I must persevere!

Day two- it's like dd gets bored and just pees everywhere to get out of wearing pants & back into nappies! We've had a fair few wees on potty but she just went upstairs and weed all over the floor! I'm just lost as to what to do!

Could you try for a few days but be prepared to give it up and try again in a couple of months?

We tried with dd at 2.3, was a disaster. She was willing, understood what the potty was for, got a few wees in the potty but after 4 days was still weeing on the floor regularly. Worse, she was becoming very upset with herself every time she had an accident. So we quit.

At 2.5 dd decided herself she wanted to wear big girl pants 'like X from nursery'. Went so much better, still some accidents but most wees and poos in the potty right from the start.

Give it a go but don't stress if you need to stop and try again in a few weeks.

It sounds like your DD is doing really well if she has done 4 wees on the potty. It is normal to have accidents most days for weeks, don't believe the "oh my child was dry in a week" crew. It's like the "my baby slept through at 6 weeks" crew - depends on your definition of "dry" or "sleeps through." I've been at this since Christmas and my son had one accident today BUT he is now asking to go on the potty rather than me taking him. The point of potty training is that your child starts to take charge of their own body and it is hard work. I think it sounds like you are doing great so persevere and be prepared to do lots of washing!

Bad parent of the year award goes to me! Dd is actually 2yrs 9 months Shock I totally blame exhaustion

Today went a little better, 2 major accidents & a few dribbles. Plenty of wees on the potty though. I'm hoping tomorrow she will know that this isn't going away and improve on today! Fingers crossed anyway! Thanks everyone!!

We were very lucky with our little man, who is 2.5 and now potty trained.

I think, if you decide now is the time for potty training, don't use nappies anymore in the day. It just confuses them.

Also, we asked our DS if he needed a wee a few times an hour, but didn't put him on the potty every time. We let his bladder fill up so he started to recognise the signs, which seemed to work.

DS hates wet clothes which also helped.
