I fond it made a tremendous difference to my dd and her windy/colicky problems. Not overnight but after a couple of treatments we would get a few days respite-when we continued with exercises at home the benefit was immense-for her and us!

My son goes to a cranial osteopath (he's 5 BTW). The osteo also treats babies and was telling me about a baby that wouldn't stop screaming and after ten minutes' treatment he was asleep on his treatment table and his colic has improved greatly over a period of weeks.

My son had glue ear and was constantly blocked up his nose and spoke very nasally. Consultant at hosp wanted to operate, put in grommets and remove adenoids. Six months at the osteopath = glue ear gone completely in one ear, reduced by half in other ear and his hearing is perfect. = no surgery! He has just started snoring again after a snore-free summer so he'll be going back once a fortnight to help with that.

Bit off the point but HTH!

Could a cranial osteopath help with feeding problems in a newborn? Not colic, just not feeding well.

mumchez · 25/10/2006 22:47

pretty- i have heard that cranial is good for feeding as well.. something to do with how they position themselves, some muscles can be tight from birth!! how much it will help i dont know though!!!

Call up, have a chat with one and they will tell you what they can help with. My son's osteopath is so nice, he explains what he is doing and what affect it's having on his body etc etc. Basically he is draining his lympatic system so it works better (or something!). It's about getting the body working to it's optimum performance by opening all the channels inside. Sounds a bit weird and I can't explain it like he does but it worked for my DS.

KBear · 25/10/2006 22:48

I'm in SE London BTW if you need a recommendation!

I took my ds at 3 weeks old and have never looked back after 3 sessions he turned into the happiest most contented baby in the world and still is. The craneal osteopath picked up on a lot of things he even told me how I had felt when I was carrying ds (I had a painful right pelvis) and he explained why and how he had been facing. It doesn't look like they do much but in my experience it was bloody brilliant!

mumchez · 25/10/2006 22:50

thanks kbear but i am north london!!! have found one on the net though really close, first thing tomorrow im calling them up!!

Should say my ds is 11 months now.

Ellbell · 25/10/2006 22:52

Worked for my dd2 too. Can't say how it worked, or what exactly she did, but we had three sessions and after the second session she was much more relaxed. Before that she hated to be put down ... ever (I carried her everywhere in a sling), she wasn't colicky, just clingy but as I had another child under 2 at the time that was difficult. It definitely helped. (The one I used was in Pangbourne in Berkshire ...don't know where you are.)

Ellbell · 25/10/2006 22:53

Oops, cross-posted. I see you are in N. London.

Flamebat · 25/10/2006 22:57

Sorry - started to reply and the phone rang, hence the short post!!

The chiropractor goes with the theory that the body has been through a major trauma both in the womb, and coming out of the birth canal with all the twisting and bending that it has to do. Both of my children were born with one side of their neck slightly out of alignment - they both has exactly the same latching problem during feeding. With DD I took about 6 weeks to get her there - feeding was hell, colic had started, and we were living in misery. Within 10 sessions at the very most (I think it was 8) - 2 per week, she was fixed... no colic, latch fine.

DS was born, I noticed the latch starting, and took him from the absolute earliest they would accept. He had a couple of problems around his lower back too, but again, within the 10 sessions, he turned his head properly, the latch was fixed, and we didn't suffer from one night of colic with him.

am skeptic from planet skept

ok

dd taken to osteppath about 2 months ago in deperation

it didn't help with the sleeping tbh. but it seemed to make far less miserable and grumpy and thus a lot easier to cope with.

would recommend.

frumpygrumpy · 26/10/2006 11:12

I've taken 2 of my children cranio sacral therapy - both times great results.

mumchez · 27/10/2006 21:14

Well i took my dd2 to osteo yesterday, i was skeptical as dd2 cried for ages, i thought the poor guy wouldn't stop her crying as she was going for ages!! After persevering with her and bouncing her on his knee (some certain stretching excercise!) she finally fell asleep :O!!!
He mentioned about not overfeeding her ( me and breasts are guilty!) and today she has been muuuch better!! Not 100% colicky free yet but was tres impressed! So thumbs up from me, next appoinment next week, hopefully she will be a little more comfortable for a head massage ..

I thought it was total rubbish - until we tried it with DS1... then DS2, then DH, then me, then DS3!

It worked for us
