I have a dd who is almost 16 weeks and wonder if anyone had some best buys they wanted to share. In going to find her a teether and she likes sitting in her baby bjorn and shaking her soft rattle. I remember a while back bumbos were the raved about product- are they worth it? What else do you like?

Hello, this thread is quite old and some of the suggestions are a little out of date. Take a look at our round up of the best toys for 6-12 month old babies for the latest Mumsnet user recommendations.

Thanks!

Mine loves those cloth books with things to feel on every page. The good thing is they're very cheap and easy to clean! Ditto any bright coloured soft toy.
The best bargain is link loops - Early Learning sell then and you can even find them in pound shops. They're just big plastic chain links -she loves to manipulate them, chew them ... you can hang them off the pram and wash them in the dishwasher! Grin

The fisher price kicking piano is a smash hit with mine. She spends house playing with toys on the gym & kicking the piano. I can get a dozen jobs done meanwhile! Very safe as we've put in on the floor. Got it off amazon.

A set of stacking cups really cheap and a great toy.

Oh and a jumperoo from 6 months

Mine (5m) loves a set of plastic keys, the Lamaze Captain Calamari and the VTech Crawl and Learn ball.

The bouncy chair and playmat are good n toy wise the lamaze toys we have several.

Ds2 fav thing for entertainment is ds1 aged 4.5yrs :)

Oball is nice - easy to grab. I didn't like the way he slumped in the bumbo and read that tummy time is apparently better for them to learn to sit up.

I agree with stacking cups (a massive hit from about 5-6 months) and Lamaze toys - particularly the lion. We found the bumbo really good for the start of weaning but only put her in for very short periods as I don't think it's brilliant developmentally. They out grow it quickly too so I'd only bother if you can get a second hand bargain

Wouldn't bother with Jumbo as they're in it for such a short time but dd LOVED her jumperoo from about 3.5 months (when she could hold her head up). It gave me time to sit and drink a cuppa and seemed to help strengthen her legs and back. It was some of the best baby money we spent!!!Smile

*Bumbo, not Jumbo, stupid autocorrect!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 04/03/2015 20:26

DS is 4mo and his favourites are linking rings, a taggie, and a big soft toy fox. He quite likes the Jumperoo but tires easy in it. Hopefully he will use it more as he grows.

2.5 years ago but all the Lamaze stuff, crinkly books, rattles, rainmaker, and a few soft toys. We also had some musical things including the world's most annoying drum from my sister. A big playmat with interesting stuff to look at. And we had the Mamas and Papas Snug instead of the Bumbo. Much sturdier, better built etc. After we took the insert out DS sat in the main bit for ages so a very good buy.

Oooooh someone bought her the lion - the sound it makes scares me though!
