Is this normal for 3 week old?

my DD2 is three weeks today, she had a feed at 12, drank 5th. burped and put back down, lay awake about 20 Minutes grunting etc. Then she woke again at 1.30, it's now 3am and she's just gone back off to sleep after having another 2.5oz... This to me seems like an awful lot but there's no settling her otherwise. She can.suffer from bad wind occasionally, a lot less now she's getting older, she's currently on cow and gate milk. Any ideas?

At 3 wks DD was feeding from 4oz bottles and drank 50-75%. Feed times were every 3 hours. DD had terrible gas so each feed ended with gripe water.

I would try burping her throughly. Rub her back quite hard in a circular motion staring from her bum up. Keep doing to for 5 mins and then do the cycle legs for 2-3mins. If you have some gripe water I would try that. For feeding, my DC liked having a schedule, and I found it helped me too. It sounds to me like its gas keeping her up.

I'm in the US and DD was a similac baby while DS was a Costco Kirkland formula baby. We tried all sorts of formula with dd and DS including powder and ready made.

3weeks old, yes perfectly normal. Lots of short sleeps and feeds are completely normal. It will take a while before any kind of pattern or day-night cycle can be established. Don't worry.

I don't know if it's normal, but sounds very familiar!

3 weeks is a growth spurt ... They get super hungry! Grin

MrsCK · 01/03/2015 20:07

How long does the growth spurt last for?!

squizita · 01/03/2015 20:32

With mine it was a week or so ... but it varies. Then mine had another about 3 months and another 4-5 months! Basically I just notice her hungrier and suddenly she's noticeably longer! Grin

I feel a bit better reading your posts!! Dd1 must have been a freak baby that just fell into an absolutely perfect sleep/feed routine, 10, 2, 6 repeat, from 3 days old... Any ideas on how we can start a routine? either dh or myself are having DD2 downstairs through the night as not to wake dd1, I can't help but feel like this isn't helping her establish between day/night.

I started off with DC sleeping during the day in the sunniest room in the house and a pitch black room at night and they were fed in the dark room (used a night light). Feeding was moved onto a proper schedule over the first 8 weeks. I first got to the point where I figured out their regular feed pattern, ie how long can they go between feeds and got them used to eating that often. For my DC it was every 3 hours. After that it was a case of extending the time between feeds by 15mins and building up to a 4 hour feeding schedule with 5-6 hours over the night.
