avoid. They actually make the socket more dangerous.

WrappedInABlankie · 28/02/2015 20:35

I have them. Apparently they make them more dangerous but seeing as they completely cover the plug and I sometimes can't get them out they're not that bad

Have a look on the ROSPA website, despite the conflicting advice there's actually no strong evidence either way according to them.

This site presents the case against them. We didn't use them with our little ones

This explains why they are unnecessary and potentially dangerous: www.fatallyflawed.org.uk

The UK has the worlds finest plug and sockets system, and covers are entirely unnecessary, and actually undesirable.

However, if you live in one of the more primitive countries with a poorer design of plug and socket (e.g. USA, France, Germany) then they may be appropriate.

(yes, seriously)

MrsHenryCrawford · 01/03/2015 16:02

Yes-three pin sockets are very safe.

berrypicking · 02/03/2015 14:05

Yep uk plugs are safe already and don't need a cover. They can potentially be dangerous to use them like others have said.

I am delighted to report that the NHS has at last grasped the unsafety these socket covers provide, and has issued an alert.

"This Alert is issued to highlight how, in certain circumstances, the use of plastic 13A (13 amp) electrical socket inserts (sold as safety accessories) can overcome the safety features designed into socket outlets.

13A electrical socket inserts should not be used in health or social care premises, nor supplied for use in a home or residence. Any socket inserts currently in use should be withdrawn from use and responsibly disposed of."

Sadly LIDL are continuing to sell the things and responded to my letter of complaint with a numbskull fob-off.
