How to get sick smell from DS' hair?

Toddler DS had a vomiting bug and was sick all over his cot on Sunday night, he had rolled in it (urgh!) and was all over his hair. I washed him straight away obviously, and have washed it twice since but his hair STILL smells of sick. Doesn't help that he despises getting his hair washed and is hysterical every time Sad. Any tips on getting rid of the smell??

Use grown up shampoo? It's more scented than baby stuff! We had the same thing a few weeks ago!

Ah thanks, I had thought of that but was worried it would sting his eyes (PSB Wink). Literally have to hold him kicking and screaming while I pour water over his head so no avoiding getting it in his eyes Sad

I used to use scented baby wipes to get the last of the whiff out. Seemed to work pretty well.

Poor little mite, hope he's feeling better.

Try a gently spray with a tangle tamer product. My older girls use it to de knot hair and the branded ones are available in £1 shops. I squirt my DS who is 5 when his hair looks a bit too bed heady for school. Has a lovely scent!

Both DS's over their bug now DH is the last man standing and he is feeling nauseous today......gotta love this time of year!!

You're most welcome. Hope you can shift it, it's a horrible smell. I also wondered if he is open to suggestion/bribery would he consider lying on his back in the bath water for a few mins in return for something he likes (DVD or a treat food) and you can squirt a little mild, but scented conditioner in the water. Some would go through his hair.
I've done this with my son before. He has Down's Syndrome and went through a water disliking phase. He would do this to get his hair washed though!

Hope you're all better soon, it's awful!

i had some tea tree spray that as supposed to keep nits away from childrens hair-that would kill any other smell

Why not get one of these shampoo guards Highlandbird (link to EBay - not anything dodgy)?

We had to wash dd's hair 4 times...yes 4...before it finally stopped smelling of vomit.

Highlandbird · 25/02/2015 19:34

Vile isn't it? On the third wash now and it's almost completely gone, I can still smell a hint of it but I might be super paranoid?
I tried some leave in conditioner that smells really strongly thinks that's masked it. Def smells worse when wet though like dogs

Perspective, he's 22 months and just hasn't grasped the whole bribery thing yet (works a treat with my 3 year old though!!) we can't be far off it now though. Would love for him to lie down to get his hair washed it seems really unkind the way we do it.

Will maybe try one of those funny hats suggested, we bought a special jug for washing hair but it's a pile of shite! (The munchkin one)
