Middle of night Pampers rant!!!!!!

Genevieve1976 · 23/02/2015 01:29

I know this sounds ridiculous ranting about nappies at 1am but has anyone else found Pampers (supposed to be leading brand??!!) useless??

My first born is six wks and we have been using Aldi No 1 now onto 2, and have had pampers as well that I thought would save for overnights as supposed to be the best/driest etc.

Already had night last week with little man waking for feed (every 2 hours at mo ??) with damp patches above his nappy, through his babygrowers and Grobag. Checked sizing and no 2's still seem massive on him and this doesn't happen with Aldi nappies. Now again woke up for feed and had to fully change him, new sleeping bag etc due to shiteness of bloody pampers!!! Taking them all to the charity drop off tomorrow and stocking up on Aldi ones!!!

And the smell!!!! They seem to have this smell that other nappies don't!! Sorry to rant, just in all my new born haze of no sleep pissed off that been let down by allegedly top brand!! Pah!!!!

No sorry, Pampers are brilliant for us and the only brand we've used. I think it's trail and error with nappy brands. Also, are you tucking his willy down before you do the nappy up as we found we had leaks as you've described if we forgot to do that? Congratulations on your DS Grin

Mamab33 · 23/02/2015 02:05

With you OP the funny smell is nasty. Had problems finding good size 3 after great success with aldi 1s and 2s as aldi 3s are a different type and shape entirely.

BathtimeFunkster · 23/02/2015 02:05

IME certain brands work better on particular bums - not all babies are the same shape.

I had similar experiences with Huggies for one of mine.

Pampers I have found consistently good though.

Congratulations Flowers

We used Pampers for about 2 years without any problems - but switched to Aldi ones to save money and wish we had done that a long time ago! They are just as good if not better but lots cheaper. So it's Aldi nappies all the way for us now!

squizita · 23/02/2015 07:53

We don't have aldi near us but switched to Asda.
Drier, fewer leaks, red sore bum vanished.

Honestly they're NOT the best- you're not alone in thinking them over priced. Grin

Trooperslane · 23/02/2015 07:56

Pampers were great for us. Switched to OL to save £.

Huggies were the only ones which weren't great.

Buglife · 23/02/2015 08:38

I found Pampers dry enough but the smell of them was horrible! Asda Little Angels are what we use. When we go up a size there can be a couple of leaky times, also when DS was first born I was precious about making them tight enough Smile so the top would leak! And yes the occasional willy up blunder in the middle of the night... Otherwise he stays dry even after overnight.

TimefIies · 23/02/2015 08:39

Have only tried Aldi and Pampers for my 7 week old, no wee leaks with either yet. I find the Pampers better because they have the urine indicator strip.

Treesandbees · 23/02/2015 08:45

I had friends who all hated pampers but they are the best for my DS (now 18 mo). Aldi nappies leaked when he was little! Although I use them now in the day with no probs but always use Pampers baby dry at night!! I agree that different nappies suit different bums!!

Jumblebee · 23/02/2015 08:50

I've never had a problem with Pampers nappies but their wipes are naff! They've left DD with a red, sore bum and when I've used them to take my makeup off they felt like sandpaper on my face Confused

Also as a side note, Co Op nappies are rubbish, same with Superdrug nappies!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 23/02/2015 08:58

We have used pampers for 15 months and seriously never had a leak. I think certain brands suit certain babies.

squizita · 23/02/2015 09:16

Jumble yes we were given their newborn wipes - harsher than most brands "normal"!

We now use water wipes from boots. We stock up when they're on offer (which crops up every month or so).

bagofsnakes · 23/02/2015 09:27

We tried so many brands with DS1 and didn't find one that was reliable which lead us to go full time with cloth nappies. I agree with the OP though, the smell of Pampers is particularly nasty!

Littlef00t · 23/02/2015 11:10

Agree with the stench! I was Changing them really frequently thinking dirty/ full because of their smell.

I've never ever had issues with the aldi ones, just stick with them.

AntiHop · 23/02/2015 11:32

Are you making sure his penis is pointing down when you put the nappy on?

Genevieve1976 · 23/02/2015 12:15

Thanks everyone, yes always make sure todger facing down. Like u probably just different babies and bums xx

Personally hated pampers, gave DD nappy rash and smelt so chemically. Top end ones we use are the Naty which I cannot fault, but asda Littlw Angels work very well if you're on a budget!

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 23/02/2015 16:12

We had no problems with pampers when DD was tiny, but have been using cloth since she was 3 months (now nearly 8 months) and much much prefer them! No chemicals so no smell. Hardly ever get a blow out.

GingerCuddleMonster · 23/02/2015 21:57

I use Tesco dry ones, pampers, asda and Morrisons gave ds a rash, aldi leaked due to DS big bottom and the fit wasn't quite right, huggies smelt bad.

once I found one that smelt ok, no rash and fitted I stuck with them. we do get the odd leak but I think that's down to 6mo DS being a front sleeper sometimes, they only leak when he sleeps on his front, but he's such a grotty little boy he didn't complain about it, and I dont know he's leaked till I undo the grow bag Hmm. boys...

MoreBeta · 23/02/2015 22:03

You need to make sure his willy is pointing down when you put his nappy on. He is weeing in his sleep and it is coming up over the waist band.

DS is 15 now but I still remember it well. Soaking wet when he woke up, full change. Took several weeks to work it out.

DextersMistress · 23/02/2015 22:07

I never liked pampers or huggies, found they both leaked. Asda and aldi were always brilliant.

feezap · 24/02/2015 05:29

Aldi all the way, whenever we've tried pampers we've had leaks. Why on earth pay twice the price for something that is half as good.

phoenixrose314 · 24/02/2015 05:41

Every nappy we've tried leaks, regardless of price or reputation.

I spoke to my health visitor about this and she said it is actually possible for baby boys to get erections in the morning, it's perfectly normal and healthy and happens to about half of all baby boys. So if that happens, obviously willy is pointing up and leaks - I asked because the leak always seemed to be on his tummy and nowhere near his legs!

Aldi have been the best nappy we've used by far, we really love the shape as my LO inherited my curvier bum and Pampers have a really funny smell when full of wee. Had one burst on me once, first thing in the morning, trust me you should never have to see that!! Disgusting smell, I was scrubbing the stink out for weeks!

Nyborg · 24/02/2015 06:00

Sainsbury's own brand (blue packet) cured this problem for us.

Equimum · 24/02/2015 07:13

I think it really depends on individual children. We started out with organic biodegradable and reusables, but DS had chronic and severe nappy rash. After lots of experimenting, we found Pampers to be the only brand this didn't happen with. We've also not had a leak since swapping.
