Why isn't my baby doing anything??!

She's 9 months tomorrow. She can sit up for ages perfectly happily, she is a very adept roller (she can get to anywhere in the room she wants to by wiggling herself sideways on and then rolling to it!) and can make da da da sounds. There is a bit of a hint of a 'b' sound and she sometimes goes 'fffzzz'.

BUT THAT'S IT!!

I just read a 'your baby at 9 months' article; there was mention on starting to walk soon and "mama" "dada" type babbling. Mine's not even crawling yet! And no hint of a "mm" sound. Oh, and no teeth.

Shitting myself now. Did I make a broken one?

(This is mostly lighthearted. But seriously, wtaf is my beautiful, darling daughter up to?)

Ahhh thanks everyone! Anne I had similar issues with tummy time, dd hated it for ages. Ended up with a 'special' tt mat from mothercare which blatantly did nothing much at all other than assuage my guilt at not having made her do more tummy time earlier! I blame the health visitor for that particular moment of idiocy lapse in judgement, she gave me such a disappointed look when I said dd hated being on her front so we didn't bother much.

I know she's fine really - but with no family nearby and no friends with older babies I am missing the "don't be a bloody idiot, she's perfect" voice in real life. It's good to be able to get them on here!

You could get down on the floor and show her how to crawl. I did that with DD. (Don't think it helped her, but if you're desperate to do something...) She has promised to give crawling lessons to DS, due to arrive in July.

Your DD may not be crawling because she can get around by rolling.

I so wish I couldn't say this, but - I've already tried that!

I found this video comparing typical and atypical development reassuring (when I was going through my 'why hasn't DS rolled over yet?!' phase):

Your pride is the first thing to go when parenting a baby... This is not the last thing you'll do that you'll be ashamed or embarrassed about.

MonstrousRatbag · 23/02/2015 14:12

What is your DD doing? She's pleasing herself!

Why crawl when you can roll? She's not behind, she is independent and cunning.

BossWitch · 23/02/2015 16:36

Ah so it's my cunning genius tenancies she's inherited, not my lazy sloth-like leanings, excellent news. Wink

It could be she's inherited both.

As someone who works in IT, I can tell you that she's not alone in not wanting to learn a different way to do something she already knows how to do. She knows how to get around by rolling, what is crawling going to get her that she doesn't have already?

BossWitch · 23/02/2015 18:54

Yes that's what I thought; she's so good at getting around like this I wouldn't be surprised if she skipped crawling. Oh well, I'll just wait and see!

My friend DD didn't even roll on a regular basis at that age. My friend would go for a shower and her DD would still be where she had left her when she came back. Then suddenly, when she was about 17 months, she got up and walked, having never used another method to get around. She was also slow to wean and talk, but now, at 26months, she speaks far better than my DS, who was always way ahead of her.

Don't worry too much at the moment. She'll probably make sudden developments in her own time.
