They need to show an interest in following you to the toilet and copying, and be able to tell you when they have done a wee or poo in their nappy

I'd under about 3 its when they show a real interest, seem to know when their nappy is dirty or they are peeing. Over 3 - well, then they're over 3 and if you're still waiting for a sign they might not give you one, so give it a whirl!

15m is still ^really young though, I wouldn't worry about it.

15 months is very, very young.

I tried with ds at 2y8m because I was pg and couldn't be doing with 2 sets of nappies. He didn't get it after 4 days... Stopped .... A week later he asked for pants and then took about a fortnight to master it.

DD declared "pants today" at 2y2m and took about 48 hrs to master it.

Both dc did wees and poos, night and day at the same time.

DS was about 2 years 5 months , trained in about 5 days and woke in the night for a wee pretty much straight away
DD was 2 exactly , started the day after her birthday , again about 5 days and started refusing a night nappy , amazingly continent straight away

DD took the decision out of my hands. She was 17 months and told me she wasn't wearing a nappy anymore. She was clean and dry immediately.

DS was later, just over 2 but we knew he was ready because when he needed a poo he would go and hide behind the sofa. He obviously knew he needed to go and would wait until he was in his spot. He would hold on if out of the house too. So we went for it. He did NOT want to be out of nappies and had some anxiety around it but we tried a gentle approach and once he'd got over the fear of the toilet, he cracked it immediately. He has never had an accident and has been trained for 18 months now. No wet beds, no wet pants. I suspect he had been ready for a while but needed a psychological push to do it.

So I suppose you just follow their lead whatever their lead may be.

About 2-2.5 normally.

I don't think you have to wait for lots of "signs" like being interested or telling you when they have done a wee - lots of children don't do that.

Thanks everybody. I thought i would have to get going with it soon haah. DS Is obviously my first, so will be posting about all the new stages soon probably Grin

To be fair though. Not too be big headed, i think iv handled every other dtage pretty well with no problems so hopefully this one wont be too bad.

Just didnt know what age to start. Thanks everyone!
