changing a nappy on a bus

Would you change a nappy on a bus (either wet or dirty) if baby was crying? bus is an hourly bus and the journey is 90 mins.

should one ask the other passengers if they mind? if you were asked and did mind would you say so or would you say no out of politeness?

Wet, no as the nappy should cope.
Dirty it depends when they pooed and how badly.

I was just about to say that no I wouldn't with a wet nappy but as a newborn dd would have been hysterical from the moment she was wet, even if the nappy was clean on before getting on the bus (we suspect she may have some sensory issues) If they pooed at the beginning of the journey then yes I would change them but would appologise and try and do it discreetly. Again if I didn't chance dd now as a toddler she would be so cross it would be more disruptive to the other passengers then changing a nappy

fine - so long as you don't mind me changing my tampon or sanitary towel. An hour is a long time you know when it just gushes. I'll try to go to another sea though.

(Another seat)

Of course I would. I'd do it in the pushchair or on top of the sling (or I always carried one of those massive Muslins which would have done), apologies to my immediate neighbours but yes, I would. Why wouldn't you? Babies with shitty nappies on stink!

Honestly changing a nappy on a bus isn't ideal but if there's no alternative and the baby were crying I'm sure the other passengers wouldn't object. I would be polite to ask though I would think. Also very much depends on age of baby. I certainly wouldn't change a pooey toddler nappy in such close quarters with other people- they're bad enough when it's your own child . If somebody changed a dirty nappy on a toddler near me on a bus I might well actually vomit.

Whilst I'd try to avoid changing on a bus I do sometimes change in a public area but I do try to take myself to one side.

I certainly wouldn't change where people are eating or anywhere in close contact with others but I've often changed on benches in parks or on a railway station where proper facilities weren't available.

Last week I changed on my knee in a shopping mall because the facilities were out of order, I went to a seat as far from others but we were still 'in public'.

I've also always been a terry square user and once took a coach day trip to a theme park with 3yo ds who was still not reliably dry during the day. I put a boosted nappy on him before departure but he was still very wet before the journey's end, so I changed him on the seat beside me in full view of the other passengers. Nobody seemed to mind whatsoever - and in fact I couldn't help noticing how fascinated the two teenage girls opposite appeared to be by seeing a terry nappy being so skillfully folded and pinned on! Maybe I converted them to be terry users themselves one day!
