first walking shoes

I'm sure this has been done before but...

Current advice on first walking shoes that don't cost 30quid please!

So annoyed, Clarks wouldn't actually sell me any in the sale after Christmas as he wasn't walking yet. Now he is. Does he have to have the proper walkers with proper support, and is there anywhere that sells them for less than 30quid? I cant find anything online.

All advice gratefully received, as I went to Clark's got measured (3E a few weeks ago), and they were no help. She said that no shoes is best, but clearly not practical for this time of year! And wasn't clear on whether soft or supported is needed.

Thanks

Ps CH1134 my DS was in those mothercare crawlers till he grew out of them which as he's on the small side was over 2 years old and included winter - they are gorgeous shoes IMO and if they did them bigger he'd still be in them now :)

Ah ok thank you, that's interesting. I have to say that before having DD I had a rigid 'Clark's shoes only' mindset but not that we have some I can't see how they're superior to any others. I keep DD barefoot as much as possible but at 15 months she is becoming a pushchair refuser and wants to walk everywhere and I'm worried that soft soles just won't protect her feet enough from stones/the elements etc.

Looking at the links now.

Happy Little Soles - lovely but look a bit less durable and not waterproof. Some in his size for 12quid + 4quid p+p though.

Startright - gorgeous! 18quid no postage! Helpful sizing guide too. Thanks so much myotherusername...

Sorry, no pound signs on my keyboard!

next is worth a look too. i would invest in supportive ones, my dn has 'soft ankles' and her feet turn outwards slightly. the dr actually advised clarks shoes to help / avoid the problem.

I think E is the standard width fitting that most other shoes come on. I search amazon for reduced ricosta, geox, Ecco and a few other makes. I am really impressed with ricosta at the moment so I am buying larger sizes if they are reduced.

YY to everything Nightfall said. Flexible soles all the way. Children need shoes for warmth, not support.

Definitely look on eBay - lots of brand new shoes at prices under 20 quid. Anything from Bobux, Jack & Lily, or Livie & Luca will be good.

Have you tried tk maxx? They sell a lot of the brands you can get from a Happy little soles. I've picked some bargains up in there
