Teething poos have burnt skin on my baby's bum. What's the best cream?

Title, says it all really. I've never managed to find creams that heal the skin properly. I use barrier creams, but each time she poos it just keeps burning in to the skin. What can I use to heal the skin?

I would have to say Metanium...brilliant stuff...wash said bottom and then apply liberally..usually better over night. Stains like a beast though!!!!!!!

I'll get some cam tea tomorrow

I got some metanium and it did make a difference. Unfortunately the poos seem to eat their way through it

hmmm...I know the poos you mean....I was reading a similar link to this and someone said they used metanium and a layer of vaseline (bit over the top I thought at the time.....but you never know!)

I used vaseline with aloe it seems to work

my ds2 is having this again at the moment. what i find works is not using wipes if i can help it as the sting him like mad! Around his bum often bleeds its that sore. If i have to use wipes i dry his bum with talc, then put sudocrem on (have never heard of the otehr creams mentioned on here) and i give reg baths as that seems to help.

Luckily , the poos this morning was bit bit more solid than of late. , sadly the nappy had come off so the poo didn't go on her bum, just everywhere else on her body !!!!

weleda's calendula nappy cream

009 · 24/10/2006 11:03

How old is your baby? Is she pooing every nappy? Once my DD got to the stage when she only pooed after meals I would (and do) put her on the potty, that way she rarely pooed in her nappy. She is only 13mths but (almost) always uses her potty for doo doo. Most other mums think I'm mad for using the potty so early but if it saves the nappy rash why not? My LO has been using potty regularly since 9mths and it is completely normal for her now. She only ever poos in nappy in rare circumstances like when teething. We currently have a sore on her bottom because of that and after using Green Baby Co balm and Weleda Calendula cream I found the most affective thing is fresh air. Messy as hell though!

009.she's just turned 10 months. There are a couple of potties around as the older girls use them at night. However, dds thinks they are for playing with which is particularly wonderful if the potty has been used without me knowing. Yucky , stinky house!!!!

Kitty, I think if you tried to get some of her poos in the potty that might help the situation. If she's like mine and poos regularly you could just try sitting her on after she eats or whenever she does it and then keeping her entertained for 5mins. The squatting position actually encourages them to poo.

I use Camilosan Cream topped up with zinc and caster oil (which is very cheap compared to most so you can apply it liberally so that it is still in evidence even after a whole night). Ds allergic to lanolin that makes many other creams unsuitable. I don't find that vaseline has the same lasting power as the z&co.

Best of luck!

HauntedsandCastle · 25/10/2006 12:50

boil up some pearl barley, let the liquid cool and give it to your lo. It will help neutralise the poo and help with healing..

Only keep the boiled water for 2 days and shake if it settles. We used this for dd and it helped no end

HauntedsandCastle · 25/10/2006 12:53

Fullers earth cream is also good. I used this with the barley water for dd (did you know that most dentists will tell you that nappy rash isn't caused by teething!

Metanium is brilliant.
Change nappy every hour if necessary until the skin has healed or at least until no rawness.
If you suspect thrush, a smear of canestan or other fungicidal cream with help. Thin layer of it before you apply thick layer of Metanium.
Fucidin is an antibiotic,so I wouldn't advise using it unless you are aware that there is an infection.
