parent parking- non iso fix car seat issue

My car seat isn't isofix, so when it's out you can only tell there's normally one there by the scuffs and baby on board sign!
Parent parking is most useful to me on those v quick shops where I hoik sleeping baby round in the seat or pop it onto the pram base for quick errands. For longer things I use the full pram or sling and the car seat stays in situ.
The trouble is I'm utterly paranoid some jobs worth will ticket me for parking there with "no car seat" when in fact I've just clicked it into the base to leg it round tesco.

Has this ever happened to anyone?
Any suggestions for evidence I'm with my baby/carseat that I can leave in the car?
Thanks!

People park there with teenagers and nothing seems to be done about it so I wouldn't worry

iknowimcoming · 10/02/2015 12:25

I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for misuse of an m&b space whether they are entitled to use it or not, don't worry about it op! Brew

GiddyOnZackHunt · 10/02/2015 12:25

They aren't legally enforceable so you can't be ticketed for using one without a child.

No one (except other parents) seems to care at all when non parents or people without children use those spots. However, if you were to be fined you can write to the supermarket or wherever. I may be wrong but I don't think there is any actual duty to pay parking fines other than those given by council wardens

squizita · 10/02/2015 12:27

Cool thanks! I might just make a note eg "Car seat clipped to buggy" anyway! Smile

I was in the car park in sainsburys for 10 mins the other day and saw 4 separate cars park in the parent and child spaces with no children whatsoever.

They are not legally enforceable in the way that disabled parking spaces are, they're just there for convenience. The ones at my local supermarket are for children up to 12 so I'm sure most of them wouldn't have any seats/evidence in them.

Don't worry, it's absolutely fine! You won't get a ticket.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 10/02/2015 12:36

What others have said. Not legally enforceable so don't worry.

Can't see anyone having a 'baby on board' sign to bluff a parking space either Grin. (Not that we ever had one. Personally can't stand 'em Grin Grin)

It's not like disabled parking spaces on the road side where you need to display a disabled badge, you will look a bit odd seriously don't need to leave a note on your window Smile

NancyJones · 10/02/2015 17:02

What everyone else has said.
Although there should definitely be tickets issued to people who display baby on board stickers. With heavier fines issued for Dude/Princess on board.

misog2000 · 10/02/2015 20:20

The idea of a baby on board sticker is to let the emergency services know that they need to look for a baby or small child in event of an accident, it's less important now we have really good car seats but pre seats babies ended up under the front seats or out of the window and no one would know to look for them without the sticker.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 10/02/2015 20:21

I'm also 100% sure parking wardens don't go round peering in windows looking for isofix bases Smile

NickyEds · 10/02/2015 20:43

Don't worry. People without small kids don't even know what iso fix bases are let alone how to look for them in other peoples cars! My friend parked in one of those parent and child places when out with her mum! She is 36 years old. I shit you not.

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 10/02/2015 21:51

As others have said - you can't get a ticket for Mia-use of a parent and child space. That's why so many people park there who don't even have children (or teenagers) with them!

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 10/02/2015 21:52

That's meant to say mis-use, not Mia-use. Bloody iPad!

NancyJones · 10/02/2015 21:59

No misog, that is a myth. Google if you can be bothered. The emergency services will always search any vehicle involved in an accident.

NoMontagues · 10/02/2015 23:58

You could put up some of those baby blinds OP ?

Also, just to let you know, I don't have isofix either but I do have a maxi-cosi base that is fixed in via the car seat belts. It can be isofixed as well, it's ok to use either way.

It means I don't have to put the belt around the car seat every time I go out. Just in case you didn't know the option is there.

And misog yes, I agree with Nancy that it is a myth re the emergency services. Any accident that would dislodge a car seat or child from a car would most likely dislodge the BOB sign too- they are usually just suction-cupped on.

ruth1104 · 11/02/2015 00:26

very impressed that you cant tell youve got a baby without the car seat there! maybe you need to sprinkle your backseat with baby detritus; spare hats, blankets, muslins... Grin

squizita · 11/02/2015 08:29

Ruth Grin unfortunately this might be as my car has always been a complete mess not that it's pristine! Grin

Nomontagues annoyingly I have a mothercare seat, which I bought before I realised the maxi cosi ones could be seat belted on!

Friend of mine is a fire officer who specialises in attending RTAs. He says they search the whole car, in a particular sequence starting with the driver. They don't even look at the stickers in the windows.

misog2000 · 12/02/2015 16:44

I stand corrected Smile

It is also the case that, since barely anyone removes them when the baby is not in the car, they won't help emergency services to know there was definitely an infant passenger anyway.
