My just about to be 3 yo DD loves baking. I however am no nigella so have ended up in a biscuit/fairy cake rut!
Any ideas for simple things to make together? Need some savoury ideas too seriously lacking in inspiration for those.
Thanks in advance

We do cheese scones but use more scones and a small cookie cutter to make mini scones. So easy and the dc love them.

Ffs use more CHEESE!

Mine loved CBeebies 'I can Cook' at that age. It's much hated on mumsnet, but good simple recipes and show DC how to do the preparation.

Meatballs. Mince + an onion + some herbs, mix with hands, shape into balls. Then just fry + make tomato sauce.

Omelette and pizza.

DD and I make savoury muffins with cheese, grated carrot and grated courgette. A big spoonful of caramelised onion makes them even nicer.

Tarts - savoury or sweet - shortcrust pastry is pretty forgiving. Or how about something like soda bread? Doesn't need to rise/require much kneading.

Flapjacks always go down well in my house (Mummy dealing with the hot syrup pouring).

3 is a bit young, but now my daughter is 5 she and I make chinese dumplings together.

I've bought ready made pastry of r pizza bases and added toppings. Smearing tomatoe purée then adding cheese and toppings is within their capabilities. I'm suck in a rut too though s want more ideas

stressbucket1 · 09/02/2015 13:39

Ooh thanks all good ideas! Think I will start with cheese scones and meatballs as she might eat those!
Will work my way up to tarts lol
she does really like I can cook but even some of those recipes seem complicated to me Blush

Yoghurt pot cake...you add the yoghurt then use the pot to measure the other ingredients, lots of recipes if you google it.

We made lemon drizzle this weekend (very easy) and my 3yo loved squeezing the lemons.

Fridge cake...lots of fun to be had breaking biscuits.

We do pizza too. I make the base in my mixer it's quite straightforward.

Pies is another good one if you are after savoury. Rolling out pastry and cutting shapes proves popular.

Ooh and gingerbread, I got some dinosaur cutters in tkmaxx, they have been a big hit with me with ds.

Borrow some kids cooking books from the library :)

making pizza dough yourself is fantastic for kids especially if you mix it straight on table/bench. They love seeing it puff up.

And you can portion the dough and freeze it - freezes very well & defrosts quickly.
