I know I'm not the only one.

DD is nowhere near ready (tried her last night... she was sodden and hysterical within 2 hours!!), just really wanting to be certain that I'm not alone (even though I have RL friends who aren't sorted at a year or two older...)

ds still in night nappies, he will be 6 in Feb.

Tommy · 21/10/2006 22:48

DS1 - 5 in Jan - completely soaked every morning

(I figured out that the nappies he has are aged 4-7 so he can't be the only one)

Friend's DD still wet most nights. She's 8.

Thankyou. I think my main issue is that my mum is hassling me

Argh Lisalisa!!! Mine is very enthusiastic about hers, so that problem isn't there.

I am of the opinion that they will only "get it" when they are ready, but my mum keeps telling me that "kids today" don't get it because modern nappies are too comfy and absorbant (she seems to forget that DD wears cloth ones some of the time too...)

yes

Flamebat, I think there may be more than a grain of truth in what your mum says. Modern nappies are more comfy and more absorbent - even the cloth ones. DS and DD were both out of nappies day and night by 3 years - and they were much later than many of my friends' DCs, some of whom were dry by 2 1/2. 20-odd years ago, it was most unusual for any child to be in night-time nappies beyond the age of 4 but now it's quite normal. There must be a reason for it - and modern nappies being a bit too comfortable is the only one I can think of.

lesley1417 · 21/10/2006 23:17

hi my dd (nearly 4) is very advanced in most ways compared with lots of kids her age but is still in night-time nappies she has been dry during the day since just over 2.I reccon its, to do with how deep asleeper she is>

Spidermama · 21/10/2006 23:18

Yup. 4.5 and loving his night nappy.

Clary · 21/10/2006 23:44

DS2 is 3.5 and still in a night-time nappy. Have had several goes with varying degrees of success from one wet night in a week to 6 wet nights in a row that was the last try too.

I'm frustrated because he has been very dry and clean and totally reliable since just before he was 2 (to my amazement - all his idea) but the night thing just isn't happening.
I see you are in the same boat Lesley. DD was reliable in the day very quickly at 2.6 and dry at night soon afterwards. DS1 took ages at night but then daytime dryness took a long time too. So I've got zero pattern to follow too. sigh.

belgianmama · 22/10/2006 12:00

My ds was dry in the dat @ 19 months, but at now at 5 he's still in night nappies and wet most mornings. Oh and talking about pushy mums. My mum is convinced my 2.5 year old dd is too old for nappies and keeps trying to potty train her when she's visiting, even though I tell her she's not ready. Luckily she lives across the channel and she doesn't visit all that often!

MadamePlatypus · 22/10/2006 12:08

DS not quite 3 and in night nappies. DC2 due any day now (well due last week actually). Have no intention of even thinking about getting DS out of night nappies for many, many months yet.

twickersmum · 22/10/2006 12:09

night time dryness isn't an extension of potty training .. children can't be dry at night until their body has developed a hormone (something pressin..?) which makes the kidneys produce less and more concentrated urine at night. So, ensure they are drinking plenty in the day, not too much before bed and then wait until their nappy is pretty dry in the morning before even trying! 1 in 5 6 year olds are still wearing nappies at night i believe.

Flamebat · 23/10/2006 08:22

Thankyou all of you You have given me back my confidence that I know what I am doing!!!

reassured here too, as ds1 was 6 last week and still in pull ups at night

I bought some cloth nappies in his size... his reaction after a couple of nights: "Eeuuughh they're wet!" Refused to wear them, but I'll try again I think.

My main concern is that they have sleepovers and camps at school now, and I don't want him teased by other children.
