Baby swimwear- at what age do they stop needing a happy nappy?

I can't find the answer to this anywhere.

I'm taking my one year old to Centerparcs in a couple of weeks. The thing is, his happy nappy is so bloody tight. Can he wear a disposable swim nappy with loose trunks over the top? What about a baby wetsuit over the top?
Or shall I just look for a larger happy nappy?

If you're confident he won't poo you'll be fine with a disposable and loose trunks. I don't know anyone who doesn't have baby lessons that uses a happy nappy. It's only the classes that insist on them.

Well I have one and I don't do baby swimming classes! I have no faith whatsoever that my DD's bf poo would be contained by a disposable...

Btw there are lots of happy nappies on eBay.

Get the next size of happy nappy? They do a happy nappy swim short too which was perfect for my two year old

Mine got to over 2 and never pood in the pool - then boom! It's £15 well spent. My pool says to happy nappy till one year post toilet training.

I started a thread earlier asking for advice on baby swimwear. What's a happy nappy?

katandkits · 05/02/2015 17:52

Its a neoprene reuseable nappy that you could use on its own bit mostly they are used with a disposable underneath for double protection. The company is splash about, they do a wide range of baby swimwear.

I've been online and had a look. Do i need to buy the liners? Will they be instead of a disposable nappy

luckiestgirlintheworld · 05/02/2015 18:35

Georgie: I know you must have a disposable swim nappy, and also by the sounds of it a happy nappy over the top if they are likely to poo (and some places insist on one).

Anyone know if Centerparcs insist on a happy nappy? Think I'll just buy one anyway- it would be crap if he did poo in the pool.

I wouldn't bother buying the liners if you can just buy disposable nappies instead.

Ds2 is the only one at swimming who has one (3 months)
Ds1 wears his with a disposable underneath and wears it as his shorts

trilbydoll · 05/02/2015 18:49

I found DD struggled to move as easily wearing one, so I gave up quite quickly once she was on solids so less likely to have an explodapoo in the pool.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 05/02/2015 18:54

Georgie the liners aren't for inside the happy nappy, they are for inside splashabouts reusable swim nappy, that's designed to be worn under the happy nappy.

PirateJones · 05/02/2015 18:57

As soon as they are on solids, so their poo is firmer.

Most pools have a rule that children under 5 need a swim nappy of some kind, although most don't enforce it.
