Clothes over cloth nappies

DD is a small 7 month old (was 1 month premature, tracking 9th centile for actual age) and using cloth nappies, she has fairly slim fitting Bumgenius freetimes during the day.
I am struggling to find clothes that accommodate the longer torso cloth nappies give her. For instance I put her in a 6-9 month pair of dungarees from asda today and it's already too small! She's only just entered the transition from 3-6 to 6-9, and that's only due to the cloth nappies. 3-6 month fits her widthways, but torso length is getting a bit tight on some things. She just went into 6-9 month sleep suits 2 nights ago and they swamp her! But 3-6 didn't do up over her bulky night nappy.
So, where is best to get things like dungarees that don't cost a lot? I just love babies in dungarees!

I've never had an issue. But then again, DD doesn't wear dungarees because I find them annoying on non-walking babies.
So it might be that separates are your only solution.

Me too! Sadly my cloth bottomed DS is 2.7 now and so it's harder and harder to get dungarees for him.

So, obviously Frugi is going to be the best as they are specifically designed for cloth but they are expensive but I've picked up some great Frugi bargain dungarees and trousers from eBay. Boden (again via eBay) also have very generously sized bottoms and my son had some great dungarees from Jasper Conran (Debenhams) and JoJo Mama... yep, all from eBay or Gumtree, I just can't bring myself to pay full price for them.

I've also had DS in leggings a lot, either from H&M, JoJo Mama or www.tjsclothnappies.co.uk/, the latter are super reasonably priced.
Some of the supermarkets, especially Tesco, do joggers that are nicely cut for cloth as do Next. Actually, I've always had good luck with Next as their sizes are generous in general. At the moment my DS is wearing Asda thermal leggings around the house and they're great for a cloth bottom.

I tend to avoid Mothercare and Boots as they're just too narrow in the botty area.

snakes Thanks, that was a helpful response. I'm off to ebay now. DD does wear a lot of leggings and dresses/tights but I like to mix it up and love dungarees!

My DS has 2 pairs of M&S dungarees in a size bigger than his other clothes which fit. He also wears lots of Tesco and H&M trousers. And Frugi in the sale.

Asda are no use for cloth bummed babies. Sainsbury's, john lewis, next and mothercare are are better. Avoid jeans. My DS is in joggers most of the time as that is what will fit over a cloth nappy. Another option is to change the type of nappy you use as some are slimmer fitting.

Tesco, H&M and Polarn O Pyret were the best fit for cloth nappies IME

skankingpiglet · 04/02/2015 20:35

I have a skinny cloth-bummed 8mo DD, and definitely another vote for Frugi during the sales here (their sizing is massive, be warned!). EBay is good too for Frugi, and the clothes wear really well so second hand isn't a problem. Also nice to know they have good resale when your DD outgrows them.
I've also found Carter's vests to be a nice slim fit on the body, so although she's in a bigger size it doesn't swamp her. I use vest extenders for all of her other brands of vests.
For sleepwear I'm going to start buying pyjamas from the next size up as she struggles on the shoulder to heel length in sleepsuits too, as well as body length.
I've got some good dungarees from Gap and Boots which both fit well over her bum.

i have a giant (99th percentile) in miosolo nappies and we have been fine in leggings and tights from next, tescos and sainsburys. i avoid denim on the bottom half as there is no 'give'. I've actually made her quite a few pairs of trousers that have much more room in the butt.

Look on Cambridge baby. They have a whole section on cloth nappy clothing. Mine wore their dungerees loads

TheGirlAtTheRockShow · 05/02/2015 11:03

Thanks for all the responses!
Sunny I keep thinking about making my own clothes for her - where do you find the time!?

Not sure on dungerees but H and M do nice bright vests which I've found long and slim which has worked well on my skinny cloth bummed wee ones.
