Minecraft and Porn mixed up in YouTube

My DS (12) loves minecraft and loves watching YouTube videos of others playing it (eg Yogcast).

I just saw though from the YouTube history that there are some of the videos have a sexual content (voiceover). As strange as it sounds, the video shows the game being played, but whilst the player plays, he talks about sex. The titles are a little shocking like: I got a blow-job from a stripper.

Am pretty sure my DS stumbled on this by looking for minecraft rather than porn.

Any suggestions as to how to stop this?

All I can seem to do with YouTube is to switch it off entirely. Ideally, he could be permitted to watch "proper" minecraft videos (yogcast) and leave the X rated stuff to one side.

Related to this, we are now thinking we should get some family filter/monitoring software. Microsoft Family Safety works on the PC, but not on the iPad and other iOS devices. Anyone got any recommendations?

This is why I don't have any "gadgets" upstairs. Everything my DC look at is done downstairs where I am likely to walk in at any minute, which means I know (more or less) what they're doing on-line all the time. It's still far from ideal, but I can't have them shut in their rooms looking at all sorts.

There's still the phones to deal with though - not allowed in their rooms but I don't really know what they're doing on the bus or when out with friends.

what device is he using, that may change the answer

I found this use on an iPad (1st generation), but he does also use the PC.

The iPad though moves around the house - so as Mr Simms says - perhaps that has to stop at a minimum. But a technological solution would be good too.

I watch yogscast, mainly Simon and Lewis as they're the best but they're definitely not for children. It can contain a lot of adult content. I dont know how you'd prevent him from watching it unless you blocked youtube completely. Yes to not letting them watch upstairs unsupervised. Only where you can monitor.

There isnt a child version of yogscast, it may look innocent and fun (it is fun) the conversation is adult in content and very sweary. There may be other minecraft videos that are suitable but these definitely won't be.

Thanks. I have watched a yogscast and yes the language is not always appropriate, but nor is it when DH takes DS to the football on a Saturday, so I thought that I'd let it go . (Perhaps I've been lucky.)

The stuff I came across this weekend was a different league. A detailed description of sexual encounters (very laddish - strip clubs, etc).

But all in all you give good advice. Downstairs and monitored (and not with earphones) from now on!

after this thread i told my son he is only to watch only stampy minecraft videos (god that laugh...)

I set up a some WordPress sites because I had exactly the same problems with my two DDS (8 and 4). I didn't like the fact they could go from an innocent Minecraft video to a PEGI 18 rated video for Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto in just a couple of innocent clicks on YouTube.

I've taken the feed for 'Stampy', DanTDM', 'IBallisticSquid', 'Minecraft', 'Barbie', 'Frozen' and a couple of others and given them dedicated sites. The only thing on the site is the YouTube feed for the specific subject.

Just to make it clear Youtube doesn't allow any "X-rated" content on their website and I don't think they ever have so you don't have to worry about that. The majority of gaming videos these days are likely to contain mild "bad" language but I'm sure we can all agree that times have changed a little and kids are likely to have heard it all before so I'm sure they won't come in one day effing and blaring about how arsenal always try and walk it in... As far as kids are concerned youtubers who upload videos of minecraft are gods amongst men and therefore they have the proper authority to commit the most heinous of crimes which includes swearing, this doesn't necessarily mean they think you have changed your stance on it as a parent, they will continue to not swear around you so you can convince yourself you have succeeded in parenting despite the fact every child over the age of 8 swears when in the company of friends and in the darkest recesses of the playground. Anyway I apoligise in advance for the sarcasm and I hope I cleared a few things up for you.

Hi sorry for butt in here but I need advice 7yo minecraft fan using samsung galaxy tablet. He loves watching youtube & same problem it leads to inappropriate content. I've tried deleting the YouTube app - seems impossible. Any advice ?
Secondly - he seems to be engaged in one line conversations with other gamers on minecraft - how do I turn this off with without disabling wifi completely ? Advice appreciated.

Check out www.allminecraftvideos.com and www.allstampyvideos.com. They're the last 500 ish Minecrat or Stampy playing Minecraft videos on YouTube and nothing else. No where else to go and no chat to be had.
