Sling for newborn?

Hi all, I have a 6year old, 8 month old and am 25weeks pg with number 3, with my 2nd I bought an ergo baby carrier with the infant insert. Anyway as it was so bloody hot I hardly got to use it. Then I fell pregnant an struggle to walk without lugging my daughter around too. I was thinking maybe a sling/wrap style would be better.
Any suggestions? I'd need one that was easy to throw on. I don't want loads and loads of fabric. Thanks

I'd recommend a Close Caboo, which is like a pre-tied stretchy wrap. Or maybe a ringsling? Try joining the Facebook sling groups - they're all very friendly and knowledgeable.

I've got a close caboo also which seems good - haven't really tried yet.

I'd recommend going to your local sling library group where you can try various styles and talk to veteran baby wearing mammas!

Congratulations on no.3 xx

I'm 26 weeks pregnant with number 1 and have gone for a Boba wrap for when he's a newborn. Having had a play with it, I would say it's loads and loads of fabric! Fine when it's tied up but more than I expected. It's not hard to put on but you can't just chuck it on and go as it were.

Maybe a ring sling would work better for you? There are heaps of online videos demonstrating each type of wrap/sling, might be worth watching a few to see what suits.

I also had an Ergo with DC1 and I never did like the infant insert. I was scared of him over-heating and it never felt like he was in a safe position in it. We found the only on that really worked with our little newborn was a mei tai style baby carrier (we had a second-hand BabyHawk) and it worked really well up to 18 months. It was probably the one we got the most use from. It does have long ties to fasten but I became super quick at doing them, it actually ended up taking no longer than the Ergo.

I didn't use my ergo insert first time around - small summer baby - and we got good use out of our babasling until she got heavy. Second time used the insert successfully - big autumn baby - and I found the babasling too uncomfortable. Also been using Victoria Slinglady stretchy wrap, have found it easy to tie and comfy.

I loved my moody wrap last time round and look forward to using it again. Really easy to wrap and your baby can be worn in various positions.

BlueberryWafer · 29/01/2015 08:28

Moby wrap, sorry, not moody!

The boba 4g is good. It's a structured sling like the ergo, but no large insert for newborns. The advantage of that for you is that you can use to carry newborn in front, or elder one one back and swap who's in pram etc.

icklekid · 29/01/2015 08:33

The caboo closer was perfect - design like a wrap but not reams of fabric! Now ds is 6 months looking at an ergo but been perfect until now!

gingerfluffball · 29/01/2015 12:25

Do you have the boba 4g art? I didn't know you could use it got newborns and dh is keen on a pack type thing.

gingerfluffball · 29/01/2015 12:25

*for

Artandco · 29/01/2015 12:42

Yes, the 4g has a tiny insert inside at the bottom but it's just a padded seat for newborn almost. You clip together to raise newborn, unclip for older small baby, and completely remove for any older. It's small enough you can pop in handbag though if you had older child who didn't need it. And isn't insert all around like the ergo so not sweaty.

We bought our boba 4g after baby age though, so have mainly used on back with toddlers ( though occasional small babies with nephews). It's very good with toddlers also as has foot stirrups once older. Ours has travelled world over. Much more practical to use sling with toddler as they walk most of the time, but ours sometimes napped in, especially if out late, or rushing through airports

gingerfluffball · 29/01/2015 13:41

Ah I see... might have to have a nosey about on gumtree to see if anyone has a 4g going cheap!

Wow thank you for all these fab replies. Il get online later and have a nose.
Spent so much on my ergo and insert but it was just so bulky and hot in the summer time x

I used the boba 4g from a week old. He was a big baby though (8lb5oz), but I'm sure it would work fine for smaller ones. I like it, would recommend. I use a boba wrap for around the house and 4g when I'm out instead of a pram.

eurochick · 29/01/2015 19:18

I have a hana wrap and an ergo and the hana was great when she was tiny but really bloody hot! I find the ergo much cooler. I'm not sure that a wrap is the answer to overheating although a 'fake' wrap without loads of fabric might be a bit better.
