DD is 14 mo and her hair is starting to grow long enough to get in her eyes. Do I just trim it or go the whole hog and go to the hairdressers. I am trying slides/hairbobbles but she hates them! She has a double crown and I don't want to make a mess of it! Thoughts?

I trimmed my 16 month old's fringe last week for this reason. It looks moderately silly - a straightish fringe with the rest still untrimmed baby hair. On the other hand, it would probably look equally silly if a hairdresser did it, and it didn't cost me anything. Was quite hard to get her to stay still, though...

You could just let it grow if it isn't really annoying her - it'll get past the 'in the eyes' stage soon enough.

My DS1 is 2.7 and hasn't had a haircut yet - his hair is in his eyes a bit but doesn't seem to bother him so far; clearly he has a much higher annoyance threshold than me as I'm sure it would be bugging me by now, if it were my hair, but he's happy enough with it Grin

I did it myself when she was 18 months old :-) I ordered hairdressing scissors so they were super sharp and up for the job. I'll pat myself on the back and breath a sigh of relief as it looks great lol I was fully prepared to make up a story about her doing it to herself if I cocked up.

I cut both my DC's hair until they were about 6 - when the idea of someone else doing it sounded like a good idea to them.

DD had her first proper haircut when she was 4. I trimmed it a couple of times myself. She has curlyish hair and we used slides when it was shorter, which she's never minded.

My mum took my twins at 18 months when I was at work. Without telling me
still bitter and yes, they had a hideous bowl cut fringe that is finally growing out now they are nearly 3 1/2.

So sorry - please ignore the randomly posted link! I had written a reply, wasn't logged in, thought I might lose it so copied, but obviously didn't look when I pasted and added the wrong thing. Can't work out how to remove / edit?

Anyway, I was going to say I prefer the hairdresser, don't trust myself and my wriggly boy! Been taken DS since 16 months to deal with his long 'fringe' and mullet at the back. I told her I didn't want a severe or bowl or big boy haircut, so she just tidies - you don't have to have a proper fringe for DD at the hairdressers though if you feel you can do it yourself there's no harm (there would be if I did it though!!)

WrappedInABlankie · 26/01/2015 16:25

Mine was over two! He didn't end up with a hideous fringe would put pictures up but don't want certain people seeing them who stalk me on here

Iggly · 26/01/2015 16:29

We took ds to a hairdressers - but he has curly hair so not a silly fringe.

FluffyRedSocks · 26/01/2015 16:47

DD had her first hair cut ages 1 and ended up with an awful fringe, she's now 2 and can tuck it behind her ear!

Innocuoususername · 26/01/2015 17:15

We trimmed DS's at a similar age, it looked ok and was relatively painless (stuck him in the high chair with some raisins in front of Cbeebies) but as he got older and his hair got thicker it was obvious it needed a professional and he started going to the barbers around 2. It looks better and you don't have to clear up the hair afterwards.

The barber was recommended by another mum with a DS of a similar age, who in turn had it recommended by someone else. So worth asking around to find someone good with kids.
