CAR HELP! Double buggy in the boot?

Hi, I need some serious help. I've got a 7mo old and am now 7 weeks pg.

The car needs to go and our buggy too, eventually. I need a reliable, smallish car (we live in London and need to be able to park) and double buggy.

Thinking of Phil&Ted double buggy, and possibly a Citroen C3 or Mazda 3. Any opinions? Any idea if this buggy fits in these boots, or what cars it will fit into??

That's a small gap - good luck! I have a 19 month gap and had a Maclaren twin traveller (just selling it on ebay) and a Rover 25. It fitted in the boot nicely actually once you got the hang of which way round it needed to go in. Not sure a Phil and Ted would have fitted - three wheelers are tricky. I used a sling and single buggy to start with and now use my Bugaboo with buggy board to get everywhere. If you've got a sling you don't need to panic about buggies quite yet do you?

Hiya Filou, how soon did your LO manage to stand on the buggyboard, for more than 2 minutes? I do have a sling but if my first is any indication, my next will be a right porker and so with my bad back, I can't manage for more than a month or maybe 2 with the sling. Thx for your input

I have a similar dilemma approaching.I have a 9 month old now and am 9 weeks pg.And I have a Ford Ka.I was just going to go down the sling and single buggy route for about 6 months, by which time dd1 will hopefully be able to balance on a buggy board. She cant quite crawl yet though so this might be over optimistic!
Either that or get a bigger car.Or there must surely be some kind of space saving double buggy?
We should invent one!

i have seen a thingy that clips onto the side of a single pushchair making it into a double which can then be easily removed for bugning in the boot, now if only i new what it was called!

katzg · 18/10/2006 15:33

this is it buggypod

no idea if they are any good but they look good and are a lot cheaper than buy a phil and teds

lolkel
with such a small age gap would advise a double pram or some sort of sitting for the older tot as not only the keeping them on a buggy board but there is also the controlling a tantruming tot while trying to keep eye on baby aspect. I had a 2.2yr gap between ds and dd and had a double for a couple of months which was great. Will only have a 13mth gap between dd and db so definetly need a double. The sling and single is an option but honestly when you will only have a 16mth old and a baby it can be quite difficult.

PetitFilou1 · 18/10/2006 15:54

lilkel I guess I used the Maclaren for about five months or so before ds was reliable on the buggy board so I think he was about 2.4ish although can't remember exactly. Might have been a bit before that. He is good though and doesn't run off - I know other toddlers whose mums would struggle with them on a buggy board as they tear off into the distance at the slightest opportunity. You definitely will need a double to start with or in between sling and buggy board imo. I sympathise re the back pain - my ds and dd were both nearly 9lb at birth and I managed with a sling for about 3 months both times, then gave up.

I'm using the Combi WE2 its a side by side double buggy and folds in half and then in half again so it looks like a golfbag, same size too. It's lightweight but still very strong. I have an 18mth gap between ds's

lilKel · 18/10/2006 21:24

Hi all, thanks for all the advice. DS will be only 15 mo when DB is born and even if I make it to 3mo in a sling I think I'm stuck having to buy a double buggy. I can appreciate the fact that behaviour is a major factor too. Grrrreat - LOL!

So the question is, which double buggy I guess. I know Maclaren does a twin but was afraid it was too wide for the shops. Even with my single buggy now (Jane) I feel like I'm driving a tractor....!!!!

What is this combi WE2? I'm a bit skeptical of the buggypod cause what happens if you need to remove the kid from the main buggy? The pod would fall over, no?

Scooter - looks like we're in for a new car. We've a mini. Yeah, laugh, it's ok. We got it before we knew DS1 was coming tho!!!

Combi

melpomene · 18/10/2006 23:08

I have a Phil&Ted double and it fits into the boot of my Ford Ka, if that's any help. It's fairly easy to take the wheels off which helps to fit it in. I looked at a couple of other double buggies but they wouldn't fit in to the boot of the Ka. Shops like Mothercare & Babies R Us will let you try buggies to see if they'll fit your boot.
