8 Month old Crawler - device to keep her safe and occupied

Hi i have a 8 month old who crawls and wants to stand.

However i feel i have to watch her 24/7.

I cant even get the door or toilet without watching her, as she crawls everywhere.

i think i should invest in something to keep her occupied for short periods at least.

any suggestions? ive thought of the following.

  1. baby walker.
  2. Travel cot (which we already have) as a play pen.
  3. Jumporee
  4. any suggestions?

Playpen. You can pop her in when you need the lavatory or to answer the door. I also found it handy while doing the ironing.

I've always found those retractable dog leads very handy... Wink

Yep travel cot as a playpen would do the job. Jumperoos are also very good for that sort of thing and take up a little less space.

All of the above??Grin
We used a travel cot downstairs for a bit then moved that up into our bedroom (in the attic) when we bought the jumparoo so we had somewhere on every floor to contain him. The travel cot was good but he soon started to complain in it when he realised it was a little prison. The jumparoo was great. I still miss the jumparoo! Now he's 13 months and I'm going with the dog leadSmile.

Get her to follow you from place to place - simple.

I have a playpen, which works well (not a travel cot as I didn't want any confusion about sleeping/playing, also it's a pain lifting them over the side). My friend has a playpen which opens out as a room divider and has childproofed half the room, which means her toddler has plenty of space but is still enclosed. It wouldn't work with the layout of my house but it seems like a good idea.

Stair gates across doorways. Have one room safe where you can leave her for a couple of minutes eg answering the door. They are good for keeping babies in or out - depends what you want. we had one on the kitchen door, one across the baby's room, top and bottom of stairs. and an easily fixable one that we could move from room to room if necessary.

Let her follow you. Set boundaries of saying 'no' and removing if they go near stairs or oven without you. But otherwise let them follow or just take them with you. Closing bathroom door with them inside with you will keep them near you.

Encourage them to use stairs alone once you are behind them. So going alone you removed and say no, not without mummy. When they are with you reinforce how yes they can now climb as you are there. Will mean they are confident and can safely use stairs alone by around a year

Mine just follows me everywhere! Can't even go for a poo without him pit pat, pit pat...little face appears...then climbs up my leg and blows raspberries on my thigh.

I'm cherishing it to be honest as I'm sure I'll miss it when he's a terrible two/surly teenager!

We made our home safe for crawling and toddling babies and they followed me about.
