What to do with my 14 month old!

I'm after some advise & ideas please! Feel stuck in a rut with my 14 month old DS.

He goes to nursery 4 days a week, it's a fab setting with lots of free play, activities and outdoor play. Our week day at home tends to be walking in the buggy / errands / library / toddler group

It's the weekends we struggle! He likes the swings but only a few mins then bored, he's not interested in Aquadoodle or crafty things yet, he doesn't like being in the buggy for too long (walks well but not for long). Swimming is out this weekend as we've all been poorly.

What do you do with your young toddler? Thank you

This time of year is so hard too isn't it - ruddy cold outside.

I've got a nearly 2 year old and I'm always on mumsnet for ideas so will be watching!

Have you got megablocks? My Ds loves building towers. We also got a pop up tunnel for him which he likes playing in.

We go to the park/playground.

Thanks Jackie, he loves building towers with his stacking cups but not tried Megablocks. We have some handed down in the garage so might be time to dig them out!

Play park just doesn't do it for him at the moment, he walks well but isn't that sturdy on his feet in this slippery weather! It's a tricky age because it seems like he needs something more! Might get the pots & pans out for a change

I have a 15 month old and have the same problem! The other day I put a bowl of water (not v full) in front on him and added a few safe utensils (whisk, wooden spoon etc). I was peeling some veg so put some peelings in the water too and he enjoyed rummaging around and picking them out...then putting them back in again. The bowl was on a towel and I put an overall on him. The bowl got upended after ten mins and we had to do a full change but he quite enjoyed it!

I also read an idea recently that I'll try soon-you need food colouring, an ice tray and some ziplock bags. Freeze different coloured ice cubes then put 2 in a bag and let bub explore by moving them round and watching the colours blend.

It's hard at this age because their attention span is so short!!

My DGD just loves books - she'd be happy to look at them all day. Hard work for the adults though!

You could sit him in front of some upturned plastic bowls and saucepans, hand him a wooden spoon or two and let him play drums. Be warned though that I let my ds do this, he's now nearly 17 and an avid drummer, currently studying for his Grade 8 and we have a full size kit in our dining room!
