Car seats for +1's, I need help!

DD needs a next stage car seat & I need advice. I've seen loads of info telling me why keeping her in a rearward facing seat is best but there are comparatively few out there. Did you get one? if so which did you
choose? If you got forward facing then why?

This was at St Thomas's hospital in London

I have found being able to clip the car seat on to the pram super useful.

I've been looking at the Britax First Class for DS2 - he is 91st centile for weight but should at least be able to stay rear facing until 18 months or so.

I get your point Bertie, but your manner felt a little snippy. Possibly just pregnancy hormones reading too much into things.

As you were.

Which? are doing a free trial at the moment and review/rate car seats. I found them very useful because they test the seats at more realistic (faster) speeds than the standard tests.

I had a recaro polaric. Dd finally outgrew it at age 4 and a bit. It was sturdy and dd found it comfy and loved being able to see so much out of the back window. I'd go for the same again if I have another dc as my previous choice was ff and it didn't seem quite so sturdy.

It was massively heavy but with the toddler car seats you don't need to take them out of the car so often.

Thank you all loads for the advice Smile

Another Britax Dualfix recommendation here. We love the swivel feature.

Maxi-cosi two way pearl. Dd loves it, very comfy looking and can recline when rear facing

I didn't intend it snippily Blush I was just trying to add another piece of info to help people make a decision. Sorry if you felt I was criticising you, that wasn't my intent.

DD was in her RF group 0 seat till 15 months. We got a forward facing seat next (Britax first class) for two reasons

  1. DD gets bored very easily in the car and was a lot happier when we tried out her cousin's forward facing seat.

Yes RF is safer in theory but not necessarily in our situation, ie given than RF = a lot more screaming and distraction for the driver. Also we barely use the car so figured the additional safety risk was limited.

  1. limited leg room in our car (Golf) not sure many ERF seats would fit.

Had a klippan kiss erf seat in my tiny Renault modus. It has a small bit that you could lift out which was like a small ar seat if you wanted to carry your baby around in it. May well work on pushchair with adapters. DD3 was in it from birth until age 4. It has isofox and I got it of the car safety centre.
Also had kiddy seat in other car. Using it now as high backed booster. Both are excellent seats but I prefer erf as risk is just too great no matter how infrequent or short a journey.

I also have the britax dualfix and have used it since birth. It works well, I haven't ever thought that I wish I had one that attached to a pram. I just use a sling for going round shops. I barely use a pram at all though, such a faff. Though my baby is only 8kg - I'm sure I'll use it more once he's heavier!
