How old is she? From memory my babies, when very small did some lovely psychedelic poos depending on what they'd eaten.

Have you fed her anything particularly green?

WigWamBam · 14/10/2006 20:21

Is she breastfed? Breastfed poo is quite often green - as long as she's otherwise well I wouldn't worry too much.

Jimjams2 · 14/10/2006 20:24

HOw old is she? Can mean she's getting too much sugar iirc. I think occasional green poo lasting a day or twoo is fine (iirc its often green when changing from meconium to normal as well). If it continues for a longer than a few days see someone though as ds2 had green poo for weeks and week- after lots of faffing around they discovered he had a cord infection (at 6 weeks- by which time he was very underweight).

Oh yes WWB, that's it. It was when they were very small and I was breastfeeding and sometimes their poo was almost bright green.

Very normal and common I believe!

my ds was on sma and had green poo for five months.he was also screaming the place down with colic and it was only when i broke down in front of my doctor that somebody listened to me and my concerns.apparently green poo can be caused by excess wind,gp gave hin infant gaviscon and he had his first brown poo the next day and it also stopped his colic.

Both my dc's had green poo until they started weaning and then it was all sorts of colours! Doctor said nothing to worry about. They were both bottle fed by the way.

DumbledoresGirl · 15/10/2006 18:40

Just to prove it can happen to anyone, my ds3 was breastfed and had green poos almost all the time for months. Not sure what happened when he started weaning, but I don't think it made a difference.

DD also had a week of green poo at 4 months. Apparently can be affected by the fact that they put anything and everything they can into their mouths!

Just came on to ask this same question my DS is 1 week old and breastfed, poo has changed from v sticky meconium to grainy yellow poo which I expected but today 2 poos have also had very green grainy poo does this ring any bells?

hertsnessex · 19/10/2006 19:42

shazz and michel........this sounds perfectly normally.

OK so I'm probably resurrecting this for no reason but I saw a friend today who said "oh how odd, she's got green poo, have you asked your HV about it?" and now I'm worrying.

DD is 13 weeks now and usually has green poo. She tends to save it all up for one or two MASSIVE poo explosions, rather than DD1 who used to do more frequent yellow grainy poos. They are quite thick and slimy in consistency (sorry). I think I did mention it to a health visitor who said it was cos she was such a guzzler (DD2 is a very fast speed feeder).

Does this sound normal or could it be some kind of underlying problem? She's totally breastfed and it doesn't seem to make a difference what I eat/drink. She's a happy baby, growing ok, sleeping ok (well, as ok as a 3 month old baby does)...
