Babies and tv

DS is nearly 14 weeks and pfb. I am suffering with pnd and anxiety. I worry over everything such as room temperature, is he spending too long in bouncer etc. At the moment I am finding it hard to get out and about, I spend a lot of time at home but get very lonely and have the tv on for company. Ive noticed that DS is transfixed by the colours/movement etc and although I never put him in front of the tv to watch it I am now worried about having it on. Ive read that children under 2 should have no screen time. What does everyone else do?

Sorry to be a wet blanket but I do think it affects their concentration. If they naturally have good concentration it won't be such a problem, of course.

But you have all my sympathy. My dgd is getting way too much screen time, IMHO, and I was the one who bloody started it, ggggrrrr.

Still can't find the article I read but [[http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/131/3/589.full.pdf]] is an interesting article by a US pediatric - emphasises that it's content not quantity of time in front of a screen that matters. I think this is as much for older babies and toddlers, though - at a few weeks old they can't focus on the pictures, its a light show for them.

In your case polka I still think a bit of TV on in the background to help you through the day is totally fine, but thought others might find this interesting.

Is your baby only 14 weeks?! Just do what makes you feel better right now. The tv good or bad debate can all happen much much later if you want it to. Most mums are still pinned to sofa feeding all the time & feeling shattered right now. My lively bright 4 year old spent many formative hours being fed in front of the Kardashians for goodness sake & he shows no ill effects 4 years on Grin restore your own health & happiness and don't worry about TV. I'm on my 3rd mat leave and positively looking forward to the daftness of daytime tv while others are at nursery next week!
