Hiya, I have to have a CV and a covering letter written to hand in by Monday. I have all my details, and looked for a free template, as I have no idea of the formay/layout of a CV... so I got one, filled it out, and then they ask me for £14.50

All I want/need is a template or a general idea for a layout....

Can some of you clever girls help me???? Please????

Hi badkarma, haven't got a template but the idea of a CV is to make it as brief as possible cos otherwise they won't read it! Can you hand write the template that wanted money for then re type it? Start with personal details, name address dob, marital status, then education think you go most recent back to secondary education, then employment history again most recent first. Hope this helps and you get it sorted in time, it's been a while since i've done mine and can't think where i've put it... good luck anyway

Don't forget also to have a 'personal statement.' A brief explanation of who you are, what you do and where you want to go. Tailor each CV for the jobs you apply for. Embroider the truth a little if it'll help. The sole purpose of the CV is to make you stand out from the crowd and get you an interview.

Oh thankyou gigglewiggle, I didn't check back

I did what brummie suggested and written all my details onto a page and then looked at a careers website and filled in the blanks. I have just written Referees on request, as they are both tutors from a past course (Who have said this is fine) but I haven't got their home addresses..

Thanks again, Yes I remembered to do a cover letter, not sure how much sense it makes though

i'd start with most recent employment experience and put education and quals at the end. not sure what kind of jobs you've done, but point out what your responsibilities were and what you achieved. If you are going to use a personal statement keep it short and factual (eg: experienced people manager with track record in delivering daily results looking for a new challenge in a fast paced environment). I get totally turned off when I get CVs with half a page of self eulogy!

What have I done in the past?

I left school @ 16 with 2 GCSE's.
I got a job in a factory.
I married.
I worked in the factory for 9 yrs until I had my dd and then the place was closed down so I was made redundant. I then went to night classes and gained 2 more GCSE's and 2 A-levels. I am now in my 2nd year of a degree course. So looking at my CV from the POV of an employer, I have no recent experience, but am willing and able to work hard, the above proved my point, as a full time mum to 2 children trying to run a home and study for a degree takes time managment to its absolute limits!!!!

The CV is for a "spoof" job, we were given 6 posts to apply for,and we will be interviewed and assesed and we had to work our CV round the post we chose. The post is in the psychology field, and as I am studying Journalism as a major and Psychology as a minor it is awful hard... the posts weren't really set with the minor students in mind, and the professor says we just have to "Do our best with it"
