And I am so bloody over it!!!!!! ds2 now 3 yrs is still pooing his pants and I have no idea what to do.

He has done it in the toilet approx 15 times on diff occasions over last 6 months, but is still crying when we try to get him to go to the toilet to poo and will hold on for days then do it in his pants. I am at a loss. dd and ds1 did it in their pants for a while but once they had "gone" on the toilet they were fine. I am at a loss as to what to do and I am getting extremely frustrated with it. Any ideas.

dd was still doing it in her pants when ds1 was born, and ds1 was still doing it in his pants when ds2 was born so the 8yrs, 2 days is the official count. Anyone beat that???

Mymama ... would you consider asking you DS is he would like a nappy on when he does a poo? I know it sounds like it would be a step back but my DS would hold on for days and days and has ended up at the age of nearly 7 with a sluggish bowel ...
When I potty train DD (soon as she is 2.8 now) I will approach very differently and let her wear nappies for poos until she is happy to go to the toilet. All my friends who have done it that way have had far less hassle.

I just let ds do it in his undies for a long time - it seemed easier to clean up that in a nappy as it just sort of made a bulge. He always did his wees at other times, so there was no mess.

he only ever pooed at home so it wasn't really a problem.

ghosty I do let him put on a nappy to poo at the moment if we are at home. My main prob is when we are out and about. The places I have had to clean poo out of underpants is . When we are at playgrounds/picking up kids from school he will just do it in his pants without letting me know and then I am left to clean it up. I know I shouldn't push it and it will come around but some days I just cannot face it.

On another thread someone suggested lining a potty with a nappy and letting ds/d look at poo and flush down toilet and generally make a game out of it. Maybe this may help.

thank you for your reply Detta. Prob is he won't even sit on a potty. The few he has done on toilet we have let him look, flush with much clapping and cheering and a sticker/choc for a reward. We also bought toy for the first couple to times. He gets all excited but then nothing changes. Really don't know what else to try.

Ours is weird - we drove past oxidation ponds (called poo ponds) and ds said what a lot of birds. The next time was later in the day and no birds. So quick as a flash I said "they come back when somebody sends a poo down the toilet".

I'm not saying it was instant, but he did really try from then on. When he did one in the toilet the doorbell would ring while he was in the bath and a letter would have been delivered from "Mr Smith - poo pond manager" thanking him for his poo and saying how many birds had come back. He would get a Thomas chocolate.

Once he was reliable and we wanted to stop giving the chocolates we sent him a poo graduation certificate which said he could poo without supervision and was a champion. It's still got pride of place!

Mr Smith is bigger than Santa in our house.

hehe at Mr Smith threebob. Could give something similar a go but don't have any ponds nearby that I could show him. Did one on toilet on Thursday not long after post and announced 'that didn't hurt mummy'. So we talked about that and about doing all of our poos in the toilet and so forth. Has held on since then though. Prob is that he holds on for a few days between which means it builds up and probably is uncomfortable when he does it.
