I haven't, but a friend of mine swears on hers! I love my ringlong though!

Please xplain! What is a hip hammock?

Amaretto · 09/10/2006 12:29

The best description is a bit like a ring sling (it's going around your shoulder in the same way) but with a strap around thw waist.
Have a look at this

I used one when we visited a National trust property (they lend you them). It was pretty good for then. I found it difficult to get used to holding onto DD with my "free" hand, being used with the security of a ring sling or other type of sling.

Amaretto · 09/10/2006 13:43

Cristina, what do you mean by 'holding onto dd'?
Dont'you have a similar security than with a ring sling?

Maybe we aren't talking about the same thing. I was referring to a hip carrier like the Hippychick, see this link at Boots if it works here

This one yes, you have to hold on to them as there's no back to the carrier, just the oversized "belt" they sit on. It's not very comfy over trousers but not too bad overall for short distances/time. I only used it once so have limited experience.

Just saw the one you meant, Amaretto. Ignore me. The one you linked to is like a regular slings but worn on the hip. It looks fine but I don't think it would be very easy to use with a fussy toddler who wants up and down all the time.

I haven't used the hip hammock (though I considered it) but use this ellaroo hip carrier all the time

The issue I have with the hip hammock is that with the ellaroo the strap has to be spread wide over the shoulder, if it slips to between the shoulder and neck it is really uncomfortable and the hip hammock looks like it would be uncomfortable for that reason.

I use this ellaroo hip carrier a lot and find it comfortable but it isn't great for when ds wants to get up and down as you need to undo it and I assume the hip hammock would be the same.

The hip seat is good for toddlers getting up and down that but as Christina says not very practical for long distances or lots of carrying as you have to hold the child with one arm.

lazycow, that one looks quite good too! Will carry on having a look around to see which oe is the easier to put on and of!

Does someone else have used any other type of hip carrier for a toddler?
