Leaking nappies...

My explosive 5 wk DS keeps pooing and leaking out of the back of his nappy - I'm having to change his clothes up to 3-4 times a day! He's in Pampers size 3. Can anyone recommend any other brands for this problem!?

is his nappy too big? size 3 sounds big for a newborn.....

BTW - i use Lidl nappies for mine , 1/2 the price of pampers and i've found them fantastic and great value for money....

I think they're all much the same TBH. Is size 3 too big maybe?

Tescos were always as reliable as Huggies and Pamopers IME. I'm using reusables this time round and I don't have so many poo problems.

is the size right for his weight?

i find that pampers gaped a bit so used huggies for a hwile, now use tesco (altho ds2 is now 18 months so the issue of exploding has passed)

DD was a chunky baby and she was still in size 2 at 5 weeks.

mumatuks · 08/10/2006 11:41

Do you mean size 3 as in Midi the 9-20lbs ones?
How much does your 5 week old son weigh?

Mine were still in the newborn size 2 nappies at 5 weeks old, (and they weren't little babies either, DS2 being 9lb when he was born!) it sounds like they are too big for him, hence the poo going up the back!!

I've switched from Pampers to Huggies Gold. No leaking problems since then.

i had exactly the same problem minko, and i eventually figured that it wasnt the brand or size of nappy for me...it was the way i put them on!!!

i cant explain the theory behind this but...

being a boy i thought he would leak from front if anywhere, but he kept leaking from back, especially in the night...so the more he leaked the higher up i would put the nappy on his back...and the more he leaked

so i lined the back part of the nappy up in line with his belly button (if that makes sense), and i make sure the side tags on front of the nappy almost touch the back part of the nappy before sticking it down with the tags (are you with me?)...i found the pampers newer nappies with the stretchy tags to be heaps better too,

would be interested in seeing if this works for you so give it a go and let me know if it worked since i did have the same problem

sorry if i havent explained myself very well

pampers are pants.
the best i have found, and most mners, looking at the recommendations page, are tesco nappies.
they have elastic along the back and my ds' poop (4weeks old) goes up the back but is stopped by the elastic everytime.
;)

my ds is in size 3's too btw.
was over ten pounds at birth and is now just over 11 pounds in weight.

2Babies0Bumps · 08/10/2006 20:19

i find smaller sizes cut into his thighs.
sorry for numerous posts here!

Thanks for that everyone. DS was nearly 11lbs at birth and is now over 13lbs and pretty chunky so I don't think the nappies are too big, the problem was worse with size 2! I will try Bubbly's suggestion or else try Tescos nappies. I never had a problem with DD in Pampers, it must depend on the child!

Pampers have recently changed the design of their nappy. Never had a problem with the old ones, but with the new ones, DD leaks every morning. The Huggies have an elasticated bit that fits very snuggly around the back making sure there's no gaping at the waist, which the Pampers did.
