Tips for effective time management?

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone had any tips that could help with my atrocious time management skills please. I have a 5 year old stepson who is here every other weekend + half the holidays. DP has been getting lots of shifts at work on Saturday afternoons lately so I've been looking after DSS every other weekend (on the Saturday) this month. DP doesn't always work weekends and can normally work it out that he's off to spend time with DSS but lately it hasn't been working out that way. I'm also studying (Master of Research) and finding time management a problem at the moment. The work is piling up and I'm finding it hard to manage my studying as well as looking after DSS. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love spending time with DSS I just know I need to find a way to manage things better. I thought who better to ask than those who are managing studying as well as having their children around most of (if not all of) the time! I don't know how you do it ladies so if anyone has any tips, I'd hugely appreciate it :)

When my son was 1 year old I was studying part time. I studied for an hour when he napped and then most evenings too. I ended up taking some time off because I started working 3 - 4 days a week and suddenly just didn't have the time to study. If you can, my only advice is you've just got to squeeze it in whenever you can. Can your DSS be with his MUm or grandparents for that time? Even a friends house to play for a couple of hours would be a great help. Maybe you can get up early and study on the Saturday your partner is working. It sounds tough...I wish you luck!!!
